Five of the seven Teche Area high school softball teams that earned playoff bids will start the road to Sulphur at home.

All three District 7-2A teams that nabbed playoff spots will open at home this week, with Catholic High seeded fifth in the 14-team Division III playoff bracket and Loreauville and Delcambre in the top 16 in Class 2A.

Also opening at home are Erath, 14th in Class 3A, and Centerville, 12th in Class A.

Class 4A squads St. Martinville and Westgate travel for their playoff openers.

All first-round games in classes 5A-C must be played by Tuesday. The select school playoff openers (divisions I-V) must be played by Saturday as the smaller brackets start with the regional round instead of the bi-district round.

Catholic High (22-7) will play host to No. 12 seed and district rival Ascension Episcopal (10-7) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in a Division III regional playoff. The winner advances to a matchup with the winner of No. 4 Holy Savior Menard (16-10) and No. 13 Pope John Paul II (4-14) in the quarterfinals at the state tournament at Frasch Park in Sulphur on April 26 or 27.

Loreauville (19-12) is seeded 12th in Class 2A. The Lady Tigers play host to No. 21 South Plaquemines at 5:30 p.m. today at the Loreauville softball and baseball complex.

Delcambre (14-12) is 16th in Class 2A and plays host to No. 17 East Beauregard (9-10) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Remy Landry Park.

LHS and Delcambre are on the same side of the 2A bracket and would meet in the quarterfinals if both advance to the state tournament.

The Loreauville-South Plaquemines winner faces either No. 5 Avoyelles Public Charter (17-9) or No. 28 Mansfield (7-11) in the regional round.

The Delcambre-East Beauregard winner faces the winner of Monday’s game between No. 1 Many (24-4) and No. 32 Red River (11-13) in the regional round.

St. Martinville (9-20) is seeded 28th in Class 4A and travels to No. 5 Assumption (18-10) at 4 p.m. today. The winner faces either No. 12 Buckeye (13-11) or No. 21 Benton (12-14) in the second round.

Westgate (12-21) is seeded 30th and travels to No. 3 DeRidder (21-10) in the opening round at 5:30 p.m. today. The winner plays either No. 14 Cecilia (16-12) or No. 19 South Terrebonne (10-13) in the regional round.

Erath (16-11) is 14th in Class 3A and plays host to No. 19 Union Parish (12-7) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Quality Sports Authority. The winner will face either No. 3 Sterlington (26-7) or No. 30 Loranger (6-18) in the regional round.

Centerville (8-22) is 12th in Class A and plays host to No. 21 Arcadia (4-12) at 4:30 p.m. today. The winner takes on No. 5 Merryville (9-7), which drew a first-round bye. The top eight seeds in Class A plus No. 11 Haynesville have first-round byes.

New Iberia Senior High (11-18) finished just short of a playoff bid at 35th in the Class 5A power rankings. The top 32 teams earned playoff bids.

Jeanerette (5-12), Franklin (3-20) and West St. Mary (1-18) were 36th, 37th and 38th, respectively, in Class 2A’s power rankings and did not receive playoff bids.

Hanson (10-14) was seeded 16th in the Division IV power rankings but were bumped from the final playoff spot by No. 17 St. Edmund (13-14) because the Lady Jays were district champions.

Highland Baptist (11-16) was 19th in the power rankings.
