LAFAYETTE — Wednesday’s action in the Quick Slants 7-on-7 Tournament at St. Thomas More had a definite Teche Area flavor as five area teams participated in the small school division of the tournament.
Loreauville, Delcambre, St. Martinville and Erath all took part in the competition as teams get in some final work against opposition before the start of fall camp in about a month.
The tournament continues today with large schools and Westgate High is expected to take the field during the tournament, which is expected to run from 5-9 p.m. at St. Thomas More, weather permitting.
The action at the tournament consisted of 20 minute games in pool play before the winners advanced to the tournament-style knockout round towards the end of the session.
Football season is just around the corner as teams get ready for fall scrimmages the week of Aug. 19-24; jamborees will take place the week opf Aug. 26-31 and the first week of the regular season is set for the first week of September.
The Iberia Parish Sugar Came Jamboree is set for Aug. 29 and 30 at Westgate High.
Thursday’s action will have Loreauville facing Jeanerette then NISH and Westgate’s junior varsity and then Friday will have Delcambre and Highland followed by NISH/WHS varsity.
