A hot day gave way to clouds and the threat of rain Friday as the I Told the Storm Foundation of Damon “Snacks” Harrison held its third annual 7-on-7 camp Friday at New Iberia Senior High.
Teams from Westgate, Jeanerette, Loreauville, Franklin, Terrebonne, Thibodaux, Alexandria and Lafayette Christian battled for the top prize and bragging rights for the next year.
After pool play, Thibodaux and Westgate were slated to play for the championship but by that time inclement weather started rolling in and it was detemined that the championship game would not be played for player and fan safety reasons.
The two teams were declared co-champions and shared the top prize.
Each teams’ football program walked away with $3,750, the amount of the split after the first and second place prizes were combined.
While summer workouts and 7-on-7 tournaments will continue, most teams are taking a break this week for the Independence Day Holiday and return to preparations on Monday, July 8.
St. Thomas More will play host to a big 7-on-7 tournament in a couple of weeks as players and coaches get ready for the 2019 prep football season, which begins with fall camp, scrimmages and jamborees in August and the first games of the regular season will be Thursda and Friday, Sept. 5 and 6.
