A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Hazel A. Moss 93, the former Hazel Archangel, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church, New Iberia, with Monsignor Ronald Broussard, celebrant.
She will await the resurrection at Saint Edward Catholic Church Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 7 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m.
A native or Loreauville and resident of New Iberia, she passed at 8:15 p.m. on June 14, 2014, at Iberia Medical Center. She was born in 1920 to Victor and Theresa Dominique Archangel. She was the last and oldest of eight children. She moved to New Iberia as a teenager and worked as a domestic worker for many years. She worked for the Iberia Parish School Board for several years. She was a member of Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church.
Hazel first married Wilson James Sr. and had two children Wilson “Frank” James Jr. and Mary Helen James. Years later she married Leonard “Bobby” Moss, from which Ronald “Big” Moss was born.
Hazel was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She also loved working in her yard with plants and flowers. She had two house plants that were over 45 years old. She never forgot her roots. She was a caregiver to her husband, mother, father and brother. She was a great cook and baker. She loved playing “Pitty Pat” and going to the casino.
She is survived by a daughter Mary Helen Berard; two daughters-in-law Madeline P. Moss and Mary Ellen Malvo James, all of New Iberia; a sister-in-law Leona Mae Williams of Monrovia, California; six grandchildren Bobbie J. Moss, Donyetta M. Moss and Toriano Decuir, all of New Iberia, Tracy James Dugas, Palmer “P.V.” Malvo and Wilson James III, all of Lafayette; 13 great-grandchildren; four special friends Amanda Simon, Edna Henry, Joyce Gilliam and Cora Placide; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilson James Sr. and Leonard “Bobby” Moss; parents, Victor and Theresa Dominique Archangel; sons Wilson “Frank” James Jr. and Ronald Moss; seven siblings Hattie, Leroy “Ki-yo”, John, Hazeth, Eljel, Beech, Louis and Baby Girl Archangel; son-in-law Charley Berard; maternal grandparents, Eljel and Felisha Fontenette Archangel; and paternal grandparents, John and Emily Archangel.
Active pallbearers will be Nathaniel Thomas, Reggie Jefferson Jr., Sherral Boutte, Gregory Boutte, Marcus Carrier and Earl Jackson Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Palmer Malvo, Wilson James III, Toriana Decuir, Nelson Archangel, Neil Archangel, Larry Archangel, Clifton Archangel, Michael Archangel and Dwayne Dugas.
We wish to acknowledge all prayers, condolences, words of sympathy and all other expressions of kindness shown during the illness and passing of our loved one.
We realize that God is ever present, forever in control. Therefore, we submit our will to the will of our Heavenly Father.
