Dorothy Hayes Charpentier

A private service for Mrs. Melvin J. Charpentier Sr., the former Dorothy Hayes, 61, will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, with Deacon Russell J. Hayes Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Holy Family Mausoleum at a later date.

A native of Bayou Benoit and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Charpentier died at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at a Lafayette hospital.

She was known for her love for her family, crocheting and volunteering at the ARC.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Melvin J. Charpentier Sr., of New Iberia; a daughter Susan Charpentier Savoie and her husband, Lanie, of Franklin; two sons Melvin J. Charpentier Jr. of New Iberia and Donald Charpentier and his wife, Connie, of New Iberia; two brothers John Leston Hayes and his wife, Linda, of Loreauville and Deacon Russell J. Hayes Sr. and his wife, Connie, of New Iberia; three sisters Mary H. Frioux and her husband, Walter, of Jeanerette, Julia H. Simoneaux and her husband, Stoney, of Maurepas and Rita H. Melancon and her husband, Ronald, of Catahoula; a brother-in-law Bobby Courville Sr. of Sulphur; a sister-in-law Celestine Hayes of St. Martinville; 10 grandchildren Courtney Menard Charpentier, Selina Menard Charpentier, Cynthia Menard Charpentier, Sarah Charpentier, Ozzie Savoie, Brent Savoie, Dylan Charpentier, Kassidy Charpentier, Jonathan Charpentier and Brandy Simon; three great-grandchildren Kenadie Savie, Treylan Linden and Nya Ledet; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leston Hayes Sr. and Seraphine Lasseigne Hayes; two brothers John D. Hayes and Joseph Ron Hayes; and a sister Audrey Courville.
