ST. MARTINVILLE — After a nearly three-month investigation, St. Martin Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested a St. Martinville man on charges of rape, sexual battery and molestation of a juvenile or person with disabilities.

According to a St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office press release, a complaint was filed with deputies on July 24 alleging the sexual abuse of a juvenile.

After an investigation, deputies obtained a warrant and arrested Joseph Potter, 77, of St. Martinville Tuesday afternoon. 

Potter was charged with one count of simple rape, one count of aggravated rape, one count of molestation of a juvenile or a person with a physical or mental disability, and one count of sexual battery.

The two rape counts and the molestation charge are all felonies.

Following his arrest, Potter was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center
