S. Lewis Street road repair

The intersection of Admiral Doyle Drive and South Lewis Street is one of the busiest intersections in New Iberia.

The northbound lane of S. Lewis Street will be closed to traffic between Frankie Street and Admiral Doyle Drive starting Monday so repairs can be made to the roadway where it approaches Admiral Doyle.

This closure will start about seven-tenths of a mile north of the intersection of

S. Lewis and Weeks Island Road. It will allow for the asphalt repair of

S. Lewis Street between the New Iberia city limits and Admiral Doyle Drive.

Southbound traffic lanes will remain open during the work.

According to a press release from the New Iberia city government, the closure is anticipated to last three weeks, weather permitting.

A northbound detour route will be marked from Weeks Island Road to Center Street, then back to Admiral Doyle Drive. Detour signage will be in place.

City officials are reminding motorists to drive cautiously through the construction site and to be on the lookout for work crews and equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near the active construction zone.
