Flash flood warning in effect

A tornado watch is in effect or Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes until 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Center office in Lake Charles, this includes the cities of Bayou Vista, Berwick, Breaux Bridge, Burns Point, Cade, Centerville, Franklin, Morgan City, New Iberia, Patterson, St. Martinville and Stephensville.

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has also issued a flash flood warning for northwestern Iberia Parish and northwestern St. Martin Parish until 3:45 p.m.

At 12:49 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is expected.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Lafayette, New Iberia, Catahoula,  Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville, Jeanerette, Avery Island, Henderson, Loreauville, Cade, Butte La Rose, Cecilia, Lake Pelba, Lydia, Acadiana Regional Airport, Jefferson Island, Coteau and Parks.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to three inches are possible in the warned area.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.

If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living  along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
