The Port of Iberia was busy Friday as Dynamic Industries began loading out the first of 92 modules for one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies.
The modules will be part of a major polyethylene plant in Pennsylvania. The modules will be transported by barges via the Mississippi River into the Ohio River, then to Pensylvania for final installation.
The shipments are expected to be made through the end of 2019.
Dynamic was awarded the contract earlier this year to supply the modules, which will use low-cost ethane from shale gas producers in the Marcellus and Utica basins to produce 1.6 million tons of polyethylene each year.
The project is expected to employ approximately 250 employees at its peak.
Three other local companies — Omega, LQT and Berard Transportation — will handle various parts of the project.
