Checkpoint nets four arrests on DWI charges

The New Iberia Police Department netted four arrests Friday night at a sobriety checkpoint in the city limits.

Officers screened 320 vehicles and issued 20 citations. Six breathalyzer tests resulted in four drivers being arrested on DWI charges.

The four arrested were Larry Myers, charged with first offense driving while intoxicated; Trey Evans, charged with first offense driving while intoxicated and improper lane usage; Donald Chanet, charged with second offense driving while intoxicated and driving under suspension; and Blake Mire, charged with first offense driving while intoxicated.

The purpose of the checkpoint was to target impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or any other dangerous substances.
