The house on St. Peter is almost completely covered by plants from the outside looking in.

510 W. St. Peter

The rundown

Although located on a major intersection of New Iberia, this house is in obvious need of serious repairs and is completely overshadowed by plant life surrounding it. The city of New Iberia put the house on notice during a November council meeting.

The issues

Several city council members have received complaints regarding the house on 510 W. St. Peter, with some complaining about the overgrown shrubbery which incidently led to a tree falling in the area. Councilwoman Deedy Johnson-Reid noted that even getting in the yard is a challenge.

The response

At the November council meeting, the council listed the property as one of several that were being put on notice. The hope for the council is that the owner of the property will take the necessary steps to make the property safe once again.

What’s next?

If there is no progress in the upcoming house regarding the property, Landry said the property would be packaged with several others and sent to the council for a vote on whether or not to demolish the structure.
