La. doctor licensed to recommend medical marijuana arrested

MONROE, La. - A Louisiana doctor licensed to recommend medical marijuana is facing five charges of illegally prescribing controlled dangerous substances.

Dr. Benjamin Stage of Mer Rouge was arrested on Aug. 6.

They say, back in March, they got a tip he was illegally prescribing dangerous substances.

Stage was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center.

He bonded out hours after being locked up.

Stage faces five charges of illegally prescribing CDS’s each charge had a $25,000 bond.

Stage is the only doctor licensed to recommend medical marijuana in Ouachita Parish.

His record from the state board of medical examiners doesn't show previous disciplinary actions.

Stage is a physician working in a Monroe urology clinic.

He has been practicing since 1973.
