SMPD investigating Saturday night shooting

ST. MARTINVILLE — A confrontation between two men at a hookah bar on Main Street in St. Martinville led to a shootout which left five people injured Saturday night, according to St. Martinville Police.

According to St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin, one of those involved stepped on the other party's tennis shoe after words were exchanged. That person then went outside and waited for the offending party to leave and fired at them, leading to an exchange of shots on Main Street between two groups.

Martin said he believed two of the individuals were from Carencro and three from St. Martinville. No identities or charges have been released so far.

It is not known if the club itself is properly licensed or was allowed to be open. Martin said his office will be investigating that angle Monday.

None of the injuries were life threatening, Martin said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. More information will be released when available.
