I agree with Will Chapman’s editorial regarding the Iberia Parish president and the Iberia Parish Council on Sept. 30 (Time for a do-over in Iberia).
In this parish, we have been blessed with substantial natural resources, a resilient and hard-working population, citizens passionate about our community and adult children who have returned home to live and others who would like to do so. We have an airport and water port that any town in America would embrace and capitalize upon.
In spite of these “gifts” we remain mired in the politics of yesterday — still oblivious to the leadership and opportunities of tomorrow.
We have so much potential. Unfortunately as a coach friend often reminds me:
“Potential is a terrible burden. Potential means you haven’t done it yet.”
This same gentlemen says, “I don’t want a self-starter — I want a self-finisher.”
Maybe at the next council meeting it’s time to ask, “Is there a leader in the house?” Hopefully someone (outside of the current “mess”) with high expectations for and commitment to the parish (not themselves) will respond. I’m sure with new and enlightened leadership — we the people can capture the potential that God has gifted to this parish. For a change — let’s “finish” first instead of last.
