On Feb. 6, 2009, the angel came and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of Virginia Y. Mitchell. Her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest.

Sister Mitchell was born on Sept. 16, 1914, to the union of Ebether Conway Young (Thompson) and Alex Young. She was the second of four children. She was united in holy matrimony to John W. Mitchell and to this union, nine children were born, seven sons and two daughters.

She became a Christian at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Landry. She was a member of Saint Mark Baptist Church where she was pastored by Rev. F.L. Riley and Rev. Joel Greene Sr. She later joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church then pastored by Rev. Joseph Fields. Before her passing, Sister Mitchell was under the leadership of Pastor Joel Greene Jr. where she served on the deaconess board and was honored as being the oldest member of the church. She was a devoted Christian to God’s word and loyal to her church, family and friends. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and helpful and giving spirit.

Sister Mitchell leaves to mourn and cherish her memories four sons Raymond (Ruby) Mitchell of Jeanerette, Robert (Irma) Mitchell of New Iberia, Leonard (Lula) Mitchell of Vacaville, Cailf., James (Traci) Mitchell of Downey, Calif.; two daughters Arline Bernard, of Jeanerette, Beverly (David) Hills of Patoutville; one sister Edna Y.
