Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Faith Cathedral for Mr. Milton Bourgeois, 85, who passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Iberia Medical Center. Bishop Drew Rousse will officiate at the service. Internment will follow at Broussard Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Acadian Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Military rites will be conducted graveside.
Milton was born in New Iberia on October 1, 1925. He worked for the Authur A. Castille Company for 40 years, then he ran his own mechanic shop for 20 years. His passion was gardening, especially raising watermelon for his grandchildren. He loved French music and enjoyed his coffee shop visits. He was a Marine Corps. Veteran. He fought in Okinawa and completed his service in China. Milton was a strong family man and a man of integrity. He believed in the value of hard work and providing for his family. Even preceding his death he was a very independent and had a very strong will. Rain of shine he was always in his okra field. He was always surrounded by family.
Milton is survived by his children Catherine and husband, Daniel Crochet, Melton and wife, Renee Bourgeois, Dale and wife, Dianne Bourgeois, and Larry Bourgeois; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother Darrell Bourgeois and wife, Helen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calice and Elina Romero Bourgeois; his wife, Olean Bourgeois; his son, Gerald Bourgeois; and a brother Melvin Bourgeois.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lance and Patrick Bourgeois, Jared Guidry, Joshua Martin, Joe Partin and Micheal Rodrigue.
