ABBEVILLE — A home-going celebration will be held for Mrs. Laura Bell Bessard, 84, the former Laura Bell Williams, at 1 p.m. Saturday December 29, 2012, at St. Mary Congregational Church, Abbeville, with the Rev. Kevin M.A. Williams, officiating.

She will await the resurrection at St. Mary Congregational Church Cemetery, Abbeville.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the church until time of funeral services.

A native and resident of Abbeville, she passed at 3:24 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Abbeville General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was a member of St. Mary Congregational Church where she sang in the senior choir and was a former member of the mission. She also sang with the Fifth Sunday Singing Convention and the Ministerial Alliance Choir.

She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters Fannie Braxton, Carolyn Elizabeth Bessard and Dianne Marie Bessard, all of Abbeville; one brother Edward Williams Jr., of Abbeville; one sister Mabel Levine of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Williams Sr. and Melvin Perry Williams; one daughter Melvin Ann Captville; two sisters Justina Smith and Elizabeth Brannon; and two brothers Richard Williams and Columbus Williams.

Active pallbearers will be Troy Bessard, Edward Polite, James Braxton Jr., Jacoby Bessard, Roderick Braxton and Kevin Captville.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tyrone Bessard, Kelsey Braxton, Samuel Smith Jr., James Braxton Sr., Mark Polite, Rickey Polite and Edward Williams Jr.
