Funeral services for Coach Olton “Sue” Hebert, 90, will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. The funeral service will be held at Acadian Funeral Home with Father Steve Leblanc officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Members of VFW Post 1982 will present the flag at the gravesite. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and resume on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Coach Sue was born on July 23, 1922, in Iberia Parish and passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at 7:21 a.m. He was the son of Clement and Dula Broussard Hebert. He was a lifelong resident of Iberia Parish. He was married to his wife of 65 years, Elder Viator Hebert. They were married on May 25, 1947. He loved being with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family. He enjoyed all types of music and dancing.

Coach Sue graduated from Tulane University. He was the first person in Iberia Parish to receive an athletic scholarship to Tulane University. He played baseball while attending Tulane. Coach Sue served as the Athletic Director at New Iberia Senior High and was also a teacher. He retired after 30 years of service.

He served his country during World War II in the Army Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart, and received the Philippine Liberation Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He was discharged from the army in May 1945. Locally, he was a member of VFW Post 1982.

Those left behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Elder Viator Hebert, his son Andy Hebert and wife Debra, four daughters Kammie Heldenbrand, Jodee Landrum and husband Steve, Norma Hebert and Wendy H. Henderson, grandchildren Chad Hebert, Steven Landrum, Eric Landrum, Lauren Gaskins, Briscoe Cain, Katie Ouellette, Michelle Tassin and five great-grandchildren.

Coach Sue was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Dula Broussard Hebert, his stepmother Rose S. Hebert and son-in-law William Heldenbrand.

Pallbearers include Chad Hebert, Steven Landrum Jr., Eric Landrum, Tommy Dore, Kevin Viator and Gabriel Hebert.
