72nd annual Sugar Cane Festival and Fair schedule

The Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival and Fair kicks off Wednesday and runs through Sunday:

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25

Noon to 11 p.m.: Mitchell Brothers’ Shows – Family night, $1 per ride. Free admission.

 THURSDAY, SEPT. 26

8 a.m.: Registration for the Photography Show opens - Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. For more information contact Julie Comeaux at 349-1677.

Noon: Registration for the Arts and Crafts Show opens – Hosted by L’Acadian Art Guild. Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. For more information contact Roxy Blanton at 364-2562.

Noon: Registration for the Sugar Cane Festival Garden/Flower Show opens – Hosted by the Azalea Garden Club. Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. For more information call 560-1279.

3 p.m.: Mitchell Brothers’ Shows – Pay one price available as well as individual ticket purchases.

4 p.m.: Arts and crafts vendors at Bouligny Plaza.

5 p.m.: Food vendors at Bouligny Plaza.

Fais do-do – Free entry. Located at Bouligny Plaza at the Hi Sugar Stage. No ice chests allowed.

7 p.m.: Shut Up and Drive.

8:30 p.m.: Four Pauls.

10 p.m.: Seasoned Soul.

 FRIDAY, SEPT. 27

8 a.m.: Sugar Cane Growers Day (Farmers Day) – The community is encouraged to dress in farmer attire.

8 a.m.: 4-H Sugar Cookery Contest registration – Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. - Those registering may bring items Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Sugar Artistry Exhibit/Tasting – Open for public viewing - A Cake to Remember on Main Street. For more information call 365-2440.

9:15 a.m.: 4-H Sugar Cookery Contest judging – Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park.

10 a.m.: Mass and Blessing of the Crops - Sugar Cane Festival Building.

11:30 a.m.: 4-H Sugar Cookery Contest concludes – Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. Cookery winner’s ribbons will be presented to 4-H members at their club meetings.

Noon: Mitchell Brothers’ Shows – Rides will be $1 until 5 p.m. Regular fares apply from 5 to 11 p.m. Free admission.

2 p.m.: Sugar Cane Exhibit - opens for public viewing - Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park.

2 p.m.: Silver Cup Sugar Cane Winner – exhibit opens. Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park.

2 p.m.: Sugar Cane Festival Garden/Flower Show opens to the public – Hosted by the Azalea Garden Club. Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. For more information call 560-1279.

6:30 p.m.: 31st annual Boat parade begins with a salute to the Grand Marshal of the parade, King Sucrose LXXII, Queen Sugar LXXI and other festival dignitaries. For registration and information contact 369-9323.

7 p.m.: Fireworks – immediately following the Boat Parade on the banks of the Bayou Teche. Free admission and the community is invited.

Fais do-do – $5 entry. Located at Bouligny Plaza at the Hi Sugar Stage. No ice chests allowed.

7 p.m.: Beer 30.

9:30 p.m.: Steve Grisaffe.

10 p.m.: Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin Cajuns.

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 28

Noon: Cajun Line Dancers – Tribute to Zydeco. Cyr-Gates Community Center, 300 Parkview Drive, New Iberia City Park. For more information call Gerry Cormier at 394-4731.

2 p.m.: Mitchell Brothers’ Shows – Regular fares apply.

7:30 p.m.: Coronation of Queen Sugar at the Queen’s Pageant – Sugar Cane Festival Building. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Fais do-do – $10 entry. Located at Bouligny Plaza at the Hi Sugar Stage. No ice chests allowed.

7 p.m.: Cajun Throwdown.

9 p.m.: Side Show.

11 p.m.: Stevie B.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 29

10 a.m.: Royalty Mass to celebrate Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival – St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

10 a.m.: Arts and crafts vendors at Bouligny Plaza.

10 a.m.: Food vendors at Bouligny Plaza.

11 a.m.: Fais do-do – Colby Boudreaux and Southern Beat. Free entry. Located at Bouligny Plaza at the Hi Sugar Stage. No ice chests allowed.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Sugar Artistry Exhibit/Tasting – Open for public viewing - A Cake to Remember on Main Street. For more information call 365-2440.
