What do you think about this business of having to change the time every 6 months? I think it is time to stop this nonsense. This is just my opinion, but I think it is rediculous to have to adjust to this every few months. I don't even care whether we stick with Daylight Savings Time or Standard Time, let's just pick one and stick with it.  Just wondering what others think about this.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to the volunteers who helped with our first ever Keep Iberia Parish Beautiful Litter Walk last Saturday (October 31st) in Coteau.  Although the weather was previously "terrible" for two nights prior, you all came out and made a huge difference in just two short hours.  33 bags of debris, trash, and litter picked up alone Highway 88, around Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, by Francis Romero Park, and along the Highway 90/88 interchange/overpass.   Also we could not have done as well without our great inmate crew and their supervisor, Deputy Minos.  These young men really worked hard for our parish.  Thank you Thank you Thank you to Warden Frank Ellis and the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department for always being there when we need and call.  Remember it will take each and every citizen in Iberia Parish working together to achieve the ultimate goal--a cleaner, litter free Iberia Parish for future generations to enjoy and be proud to call home!  To all who volunteer and give of your time, just know you have my deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks--always! 

It is interesting that the Daily Iberian news article of November 5th in reference to a sexual harassment lawsuit against Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Toby Hebert and Sheriff Louis Ackal has not been published on the Daily Iberian website.

If you have a gasoline powered generator, you know how fun it is before a storm to run out and fill all of your gas cans. Then after the storm when you need more gasoline you get to go wait in a very long line at one of the few stations that have their pumps working.  We recently had our gasoline generator converted to run on natural gas. It runs smoother, no carburetor problems, and no chasing down gasoline. I doubt that I would be allowed to say on here where I had this done, but it was here in town.

I am confused. I enjoy reading the forums and ''hearing'' what people have to say, but it doesn't take much effort to add a period or take that extra 'n' out of 'brinnging'. I know it is a minor thing, sometimes, but you'd be surprised how many people either really write like that. I use to work in a sales office and adults would come in to get a service and would not be able to read or write. Just a thought...

Lastnight after trick or treating was over i went to pick up my nieces boyfriend from his house(by the way i am white) he live in between two streets down a side street. I passed the cop while turning down the street he lives on. I picked him up from in front of his house and kept going when i got to the next street i seen that the cop was comming down there as well. As he passed me by i noticed he turned around to get behind me he followed me a little ways then he put his bright lights on me the he followed me a little more before turning his lights on to pull me over. When i got out and walked to his car he told me he pulled me over for not having my license plate light working. I was thinking that was not true as he just passed me on the next street and didn't come to get me and how did he notice it going in the opposite direction. I will tell you how hw noticed it it was when he seen us together and turned around to follow us he needed a reason to pull me over. He asked me what i was doing there and where i was going i told him so he went ask my passenger but he changed the question to why i kept making the block around his house. I truely believe i got pulled over because I am a white guy ridding and i had just picked up a black guy. I just want the opinions of the new iberia citizens because this type of profiling needs to stop. and by the way for any of you people that want to be smart @#$es i know my lincese plate is supposed to have the light working i just didn't know it was out.

Parents, we are living in troublesome times....This is a reminder to accompany your kids while trick or treating. Dress them in light colored clothing or have something reflective. Don't just stop in front of a house and let the kids get out. Know who it is that is giving that candy.....in case you might have to backtrack some "laced" candy. Make sure the kids can "see" with their masks on. It is not wise to accept home-baked goods. Oh, last but certainly not least.....there are some costumes for little girls that look more like club clothes. Don't dress your little girl like a prosti-tot. I know everything in the world is stressed and strained right now, but when I see articles stating that the State of Louisiana is looking to eliminate jobs, I am dumbfounded. I wish they would ask me or the several hundreds, maybe thousands of people in the state that have been laid off and still waiting for unemployment to kick in, in my case, this will be the 5th or 6th week. I lost track. Not to mention I stayed on hold for about an hour and 45 minutes just for her to tell me keep filing my claim. Um, I know that, can you please give me info that www.laworks.net can not provide? Then I applied for food stamps, emergency at that b/c I had already received my last check for the month of September. I applied 9/23/09 and received my emergency stamps (suppose to be 4 days) on 10/23/09. Thank GOD I have a mother and a father that can feed me, but what about the people that don't have that? When I called the case worker, she said she has 40 cases ahead of mine? 40??? Wow...I called HUD to inquire about applications and they told me that they would not be taking applications for at least another 2 years? What u say? What about the people that cannot afford rent, can't find a job to pay rent, and have no family/friends to fall back on? Guess the state needs to hire more people to build more homeless shelters b/c looks like they will be needed.

Please Help!!!  My son took my black lab mixed dog for a joy ride on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, in the back of his white Toyota truck.  Some how he lost my dog.  He was last seen in the back of his truck at the Food N Fun on the corner of Darnall Rd and Hwy 182 (Spanish Trail). After leaving Food N Fun he went down Darnall Rd to visit a friend on Ozenne Rd., in Lydia. When he arrived at his friends house he doesn't know if the dog jumped out of the truck and ran off or if he was even in the back of the truck when he arrived.  Please help!!  I am offering a reward.  He is a black mixed lab with white markings on his chest, he is wearing a small chain link collar with his rabies tag attached. Please call: 337-352-1019.  Thank you.

I am aware and deeply concerned about an incident that occurred last week at Coteau Elementary.  There was a small article about it in Friday's Daily Iberian, but I feel there should be more said about this situation.  The PRINCIPAL was assaulted by an aide who was being reprimanded for not properly performing her duties, and that doesn't make at least the Second Front of the paper.  The public should be outraged that this "woman" physically attacked her supervisor, drew blood, and went back into the school's classrooms to brag about what she had done.  I hope I am not the only person who is bothered by this.  Who do you think will want to run our schools if this is a fear that is valid?  And how can we trust our children will be properly cared for and secure when these kinds of people are running about?

I was born in the 1950's.  I was born to a what is now classified as a "white" family and we had to work to make ends meet.  Today, I am considered a white / male.  I never viewed myself as such.  But in being viewed this way, I am not given the same latitude as others in that if I use certain "street" words; I am being a hateful person.  Yes, this happens even though others speak the same language and it is "cool."

I would like to know if there every be anything done with the visitor side, because when it rains it is a mess to get to your seats. My thoughts with -2- 5a teams playing there and out of town teams coming in the school board would want it to look nice and make a good impression, but the way it is now the only thing wanting to sit on that side is pigs.

I am in need of honest advice. One of my friends was recently in a horrible accident. She was in ICU for almost  two weeks and is now facing an extended stay in a hospital and months of physical therapy. I was thinking about how I might help the family out in their time of need. I have limited means myself in the current times we all face. I do however have one thing. A 1928 Kimball Grand Piano. I was wondering if there might be enough interest in playing this piano to host a benefit for my my friend. Perhaps "A Night With The Grand" sort of thing. I usually bounce ideas off of my daughter but she has turned 18 and knows it all now, especially how NOT to be home or reachable, so I am turning to you with this. Please be honest but kind. Does anyone know if it is legal for the admin of a public forum that is supposed to be anonymous to give out the ip addresses of posters? Say i post something negative about an employer and they give out my ip address to the company to find out who I am? Is this legal? And can my company find out who I am just by the i.p. address given to them?

j6Considering the decline in ACT scores at CHS do you think the administration considered moving the homecoming dance to saturday night instead of friday after the game.  Students will be forced to choose between staying out late after a Homecoming game and attending the dance or going home and get a good nights sleep and rest up for the ACT test they will be taking on Saturday morning.  I understand that it is the responsibility of students and parents alike to make good choices and sound decisions but, why should they have to even make this choice.  All in all,the students may think, "If I don't do well on this test I can just take it again."  Not bad logic in my book.  However, these scores will be recorded and further bring down the average reported by CHS.  It is these type of decisions by the CHS administration that is bringing the unwanted attention to its lack of leadership.  Are dances on Saturday night really that bad?  Why not move the dance so that "everyone" can enjoy it?  Sure the test can be take again but the memoried of a High School Homecoming dance are limited.  Its the little things that the administration can do, but refuses too, that can make a difference in attitude and moral.  If anyone in the "clique" can make a difference I beg you to do so for the sake of the kids.  DR UHL MOVE THE DANCE TO SATURDAY NIGHT--RESTORE THE TRADITION AND CREATE MEMORIES--MEMORIES LAST A LIFETIME

I was somewhat concerned after listening to Obama's weekly radio address. He was discussing the scandalous insurance industry and the millions of dollars they were spending on ads to discourage Americans from parts of the health care reform bill. The insurance industry is just one of many that are  spending millions of dollars on ads trying to convince the American people that their position is the correct one. Not only is Obama vilifying insurance companies, he is also telling them if they can correspond with their costumers. After Humana insurance corresponded with their existing  Medicare advantage costumers to explain that their plan will no longer be available if  health care reform goes through.(Medicare advantage plans are eliminated in all 5 of the proposed plans as part of the 500 billion that they plan to take out of Medicare.) All other  companies that handle Medicare advantage plans were told that they were not to correspond with their customers either. I guess he doesn't want  Medicare advantage plan holders to realize that "if you like your plan you just may not be able to keep  that plan."

If you can't at some point provide measurable verifiable evidence for the specific being that you claim to exist, all the arguments in the world won't establish your claim as fact.

Sometime in July I made a Public Records request for the information regarding which council members that were taking advantage of the Health Insurance offered by Iberia Parish Government. At first I received a reply from the Human Resource Director which stated they could not provide me with this list because it would involve or expose family members and this was against their policy. I then made another request for simply a list of which council members were using the insurance and what was the cost to Iberia Parish Government for this coverage. In a letter dated July 27, 2009 I received the following from Human Resource Director:

When you respond to a post here on the forum quotation marks are automatically placed aroundyour response. First off, I don't see the need for this, and secondly, when part of you reply is a quote of someone which requires quotation marks there ends up being a double set of quotation marks around it.  Before you read the responses to this post, stop and take a guess as to how many of the responses will be complaining that they can't believe someone would post something this unimportant.  One of my family members, Daisy May Marsh, has been stricken with a fatal spinal disease, and she was diganosed yesterday, Tuesday, October 13th, 2009, in Baton Rouge, La. with a disease of the spine that causes her spine to become disfigured, which will eventually cause disfigurement and very much pain, all I am asking is that this wonderful community of New Iberia and Iberia Parish, please keep Daisy Mae Marsh in their thoughts and prayers, thanking all of you very much

Backdoor Election Rigging

I saw inmates picking up trash on the Avery Island Road last week.  They did a really good job.  I am wondering if there is any way to request that they pick up in a certain area.  There is a connecting street off of the AI Rd that is an eyesore.  It is only around this one residence that the problem lies.  It happens to be the 1st thing you see when you turn on to this street.  The people who own it seem to take really good care of the property EXCEPT for the side that faces this street.  The trash has accumulated there, and they seem not to care.  I would guess that this part of the property is considered "easement"... but it looks horrible.  Who can we contact to help to clean up this street??

Debbie White and Richard Boutte deserve the Nobel Prize for Truth. These two brave Iberia Parish citizens brave the insults of a few parish council people to give us the " Cold Blooded Truth "  Only once have I found a small error when  the amount of council members who went to Hawaii on our tax dollars  was mentioned . It was 2 not all 14. Other than that minor error the bulk of their inquiries into the possible wrong-doing and misconduct of our elected officials has been on the nose. I hope they will keep on informing us as the loyal Parish Council Watchers that they are. I bet some of those council members think they are anti  government. That is not the case. White and Boutte are our modern day freedom fighters, fighting to bring us voters out here the TRUTH. I hope we get many, many more letters from the team  of Council Watchers .

While reading about the failed amendment that would give congress and the American people 72 hours to read the completed healthcare bill before a vote ,I found a very interesting comment by one of the 12 that voted against the amendment. Kent Conrad a democrat from North Dakota claims that go-slow proposals wouldn't make any difference, because only 5% of Americans will be able to understand the legalese in the bills anyway.  It disturbs me that someone in congress(and probably others ) feel we are so stupid that we need them to dictate what is best for us. Over the last several months I have read (not always easy,but possible) HR3200, 1 of the unnumbered senate healthcare bills, HR45(gun controll,probably nothing to worry about ONLY because it will not make it out of committee) and I scanned HR1913 (defence funding bill that about 1/4 had nothing to do with defence or defence spending. It  was just away to get some things past without debate,so Americans have know idea whats in the bill untill after it passes.) The only reason that  our congress is getting away with these thing is because we are letting them. We need to show congress (democrats and republicans) that there are more than 5% of us that are aware of whats going on and take our country  back
