 Watching channel 10 Super Bowl coverage. Totally disgusted that the President of the United States is taking up air space where people tune in to watch the preview game show and instead we hear the President trying to push his agenda. Totally distasteful!! By the way I don't care if it would have been any other President. It's distasteful!!!

Today I was driving down sugar oaks road, just past troy rd. when i watched an elderly man get out the passenger side of a white ford pickup truck and throw a bunch of trash in the ditch. I took a picture with my iphone of the truck with the license plate and let the sheriff's dept. know. I sure hope they do something. Utterly disgusting. I can post a pic here of the truck, and list his plate number. I wonder if the D.I. would let?

Sheriff Ackal has requested a security fence at the Iberia Parish Jail to "eliminate ongoing contraband issues."  Fair enough. But do we need 4350 feet of 12-foot fencing to do that? I don't think so.  Unless the state is willing to pay for the fence, the parish jail should not be required to meet  standards set by the state penitentiary for a fence. Let's respond to a reasonable request in a reaonable, affordable way.

Maybe one of the intelligent idiots on the council (either parish or city) will read our lists of roads in our city or our parish in need of repair.  Please submit your list to this topic.  The parish is spending a whopping $400,000 on road repairs out of the $13,000,000 in the general fund surplus.  This amounts to 3% of expenditures.  Yet, we want to save some partially standing bricks along the bayou for Freddie D. (city council), build a new government building for Bernard B. (parish council), by a funeral home and have it demolished a couple of years later to make it a parking lot, build sidewalks for the loiterers, hire more people to shuffle papers, and probably take a trip to China to drum up some business for the area--remember that one? 

It is mind boggling as to how much of the U.S.'s foreign policy is swayed by Israel. With the largest lobby to congress, Israel has unlimited influence on U.S. politicians. Can someone tell why a country, Israel, which is said to be the 15th richest nation in the world, receive the equivilence of 7 million dollars a day of U.S. taxpayer money? We as Americans are touted as a peace loving country. Then why does the U.S. allow itself to be dragged into wars for Israel's sake? The motto of Israel's Mossad, the equivilent of the U.S.'s CIA, is "war by deception". Their objective is to pull of false flag operations in order to trick the U.S. into doing their dirty work for them. From all the chatter on the internet, the U.S. is headed for a war with Iran. Guess what country is threatened by Iran. Not the U.S.. Every time a terror threat is percieved it is blamed on Al Queda And Bin Laden. From all the information I can gather, Bin Laden was killed in 2001 and was buried in the hills of Tora Bora. Hardly anyone is fooled by the fake audios and videos of BL. How many of you know Bin Laden used to be under the employ of the CIA? Duh! Many people seem to think it's only a matter of time before a "false flag operation" will be performed in order to drag the U.S. into war with Iran. For whose sake? Don't you think it's time for the U.S. to get out of the "war" business? Take care of it's own people first, instead of sacrificing brave service mens live for another country? Don't just depend on American press to get all the facts. Search out international press sites to get their view on the hold Israel has on the U.S. A lot of them are laughing at us behind our backs. I continue to wonder if the elected officals of this parish truly beleive that the tax payers are either blind or stupid or both, the thought of the Parish council spending 2.5 million dollars on another building for their comfort infuriates me.  The people of Iberia parish have the worst roads of most anywhere I travel, we also have the least costly parish building than any other parish according to the politicians instrumental in having them built.  Remember the parish jail was not going to cost the tax payers one nickel, HA! all we have done is spend nickel after nickel, well thats what they said the money was for anyway.  It is time that all the career politicians and local entrepreneurs who make a living buying and selling foolish politicians their old crap buildings,I suggest you find a new trade.  I am sick and tired of seeing our tax dollars spent for the comfort of a select few and car allowence for them to report to work.  Buy a car and put your own gas in it like the rest of us do!  Can't wait for the next campainge and election!!

A politician in Canada named Danny Williams is coming to the U.S.A, for heart surgery. Even though his country has the lousy health care system that some are trying to jam down our throats, at least this guy has a place to go for good health care. If we switch over to that same pathetic system, where will we go for decent health care?

After attending my first Chamber Banquet last Thursday, I can assure you it will be my last. Outgoing Chamber President, Benny Menard criticized local governments dispute over TIF Districts. He went on to bash the elected officials for not agreeing with his position on this matter. Mr. Menard knows well that he could never successfully run for public office. So he embarrasses himself and those he represents, at professing to know the solution. This in my estimation is called crossing the line from your non elected position as Chamber President. Mr. Menard, from this point on you really should keep your non interesting political feelings to yourself. You certainly embarrassed many in attendance but most of all embarrassed the Chamber of Commerce for allowing you to deliver "your personal agenda". I felt this was not the time or place to discuss such disputes. It would have set the tone for the evening of many more embarrassing statements made by others, including the honoree. Who really cares how much gas you pass when lying in bed next to your spouse. Clearly the Chamber MUST require their outgoing Chairman to alert them to the context of his speeches he intends to deliver on behalf of the Chamber. This may have been the biggest Faux Pas ever.

I just want to say I am worried about this natural gas storage thing that wants to go in at Cote Blanche Island. My main worry is that they are dumping this junk that is pumped out into the  Gulf of Mexico. What is that going to do to the water? What if that stuff gets in our water supply? I think the parish council needs to look into this without just signing off on it. I don't think a few jobs some Texas company is promising is worth risking the health of St. Mary's residents.

The dictionary says that scum is an undesirable, disreputable, person, figuratively speaking. My definition of scum is a person or persons who steal(s) from old and/or disabled people. If you know of someone who all of a sudden became in possession of a flat screen television on friday, would you do the Council of Aging a favor and tell the police about it? The people who are served at the center behind the School Days Apartments on Center Street are without their television set. It was taken late Thursday night or early Friday morning. It was on a high shelf and there could have been more than one person taking it down from the high shelf. They had to come over a high fence and cut the locks on the door. They probably planned the hows of getting to the TV set ahead of time. Don't say the Council on Aging can afford it because they really can't. They are operating on a very tight budget and can barely afford to send meals to the disabled. Many of its clients are unable to make contributions to pay for their meals. And the Governor cut funding in 2009. So, right now some undesirable is watching a television that doesn't belong to him/her. And there is no way it can be replaced for the older citizens served by the Council on Aging.

uhl did it to bring the chs "budget way down" because too many teachers/coaches had many years of experience. by eliminating many jobs with higher salaries and replacing them with people with lesser experience, chsni is able to budget down and spend way less than in past years. uhl was the pit bull and he had his strings pulled by the diocese.

Some coullions were arrested for being in Mary's office and "tampering with the phone lines." Maybe they were not tampering with the phones, but instead were checking to see if something was wrong with the phones. That is because eveytime someone calls Mary's office they never answer the phones, and then you get the voice mail, but you can't leave a message because the voice mail is supposedly full. When you are on the wrong side of the public I guess you don't want to hear from them.

My son goes to IMS.  I stay on him about his grades because I care about his future.  I worry about who he is friends with and try my best to keep him out of trouble.  Two times I have found him with a friends IPod Touch, both times they were full of very dirty pictures and porn movies and web sites.  Do other parents know what's on there kids IPod Touches?  You can text on these things, send X-Rated stuff and much more, I did not know you could surf the web until I found it and started to look through  it.  I don't understand why the school has not done something about this yet.  If your children have these things I would worry.

As a health care professional I have recently learned that there are many persons who have memory problems and their families are allowing them to drive vehicles.  Relatives and friends are concerned that they might leave the stove on and fall asleep, fall and break a hip during one of their dizzy spells, or maybe not remembering to take a bath or their medication.  But it does not seem that they are concerned that these same "confused" persons are driving around putting everyone on the road in danger.  Do they not think that the dizzy spell can happen while they are driving?  The innocent family that is driving along when your family member's dizzy spell hits and gets killed in a head on collision will never know that you could have prevented that disaster had you just taken the keys away. 

What are the chances of one day electing someone who will enforce unpopular laws. Every day we see people speeding,running stop lights and stop signs. I am passed in no passing zones  by drivers driving way over the speed limit. Not to mention all of the mud on the road from cane carts. If you call the Law the only thing that may happen, is we will get a bunch of troopers on state highways writing you a ticket claiming you were driving 10 over the limit.  Deputies dont write many  tickets because their boss may not get relected. So what is the use keeping the same guy in office more than one term? If somone wants to get elected more than protecting us from all of the Idiots in this parish, they dont deserve the job.

I over heard some women talking about  the new restaurant that NI was getting at the end of the summer.  Did anyone else hear that NI was getting a Hooter's restaurant to be located near HWY 14 at HWY 90?   I did not think that NI could support such a restaurant.

My job is hard, backbreaking work and it ticks me off to no end to see people without jobs going around town. You people need to stop being so lazy and get real jobs. And by real job I don't mean sissy jobs like secretaries or computer people. If you're not working outside getting your hands dirty, you're just taking welfare from our tax money.

Let us imaging that for some reason the Iberia Parish school system needed to add 5000 more students to our schools. However, no plans are made to accommodate these extra students. One thing that will obviously be needed is more teachers. This health care system we are thinking of going with is expected to add 45 million more patients to the system. In case you have not noticed, we are experiencing a doctor shortage now. It is much worse in other parts of the country, but I know for a fact we have some of that right here in New Iberia. No part of the plan has anything to do with getting more doctors. What is worse, if this plan goes through you will end up with less doctors than you have now. What doctors will face and the reduced income they will receive will result in less students willing to go through what, 8 to 10 years of college and end up with a few hundred thousand dollars worth of student loans for this.  Many existing doctors are talking about getting out. Don't believe me, ask them yourself. Think of the many patients a U.S. doctor sees in a day. I saw a retired Canadian doctor in an interview. He said that whether a Canadian doctor sees a few patients in a day or many patients, he or she will receive the same pay. There is no incentive. Result, it takes all day to see a doctor there. You say it takes all day to see a doctor here? Right, but the office here is full. There, you are sitting in a waiting room with far fewer people. So at the end of the day that doctor has seen very few patients. Multiply that many times all across the country. We have a serious problem here, and of course all Americans should receive health care. But please open your eyes, this nonsense that they are attempting to jam down our throat is not the answer. Instad of looking at this issue as a Republican versus Democrat issue, step back and look at it with non jaundiced eyes, it is not the answer.

I was truly and completely baffled the other day when I was on my way out of town and saw a Marshall's car at the carwash being cleaned with the car of a brand new vehicle.  With the recent crime wave in Jeanerette over the last few months and weeks, I would think they could wash the cars maybe another time. I certainly have not seen any more partols than normal, Jeanerette is soon to become a ghost town like those in old west. What are we to do? Don't tell me to go to the meetings at city hall, I have done that and nothing ever gets accomplished. Maybe it's time for new people to be elected in to the office of mayor and even another police chief.   What do ya'll think.

Why is the City of New Iberia becoming competition for the very business' that bring it tax revenue? The Parks and Recreation Dept. is now offering dance classes! I have no doubt that Ms. Borel is a fine person and wonderful dancer, but I feel the government has no right to offer services that the private sector is offering. If Ms. Borel (or any other person) wants to start a business they should do so like every one else, with their own finances, and not rely on the government for help. If I were an owner of a dance studio in New Iberia, I would be very upset with this. What other business will the city get into next? A grocery store? A mechanic shop? A construction company? Government needs to get out of the way, not interfere , and let the free enterprise system work!

Almost every call you make is recorded by one company as to who you called, the phone #s, etc. Almost all the wiretaps for law enforcement are handled by another company.  Want to chance a guess? Just wondering if anyone else out there is in danger of losing their home due to increases by Louisiana Citizens Insurance. We were forced to have insurance through them after the last major hurricane, and every year they go up. This year, our premium is nearing $4000(over $300 a month on top of our house note). With two major illnesses in the past couple of years, including a stage 4 cancer diagnosis for my husband), it seems we will have no choice but to let our home go. The only thing is we don't know how we will physically move, with all of our health issues. What La Citizens is doing is a crime. They are effectively trying to force people to leave them and find coverage elsewhere, but that is not always possible.

Why was there any coverage on the robbery at Family Dollar in Jeanerette feom Wednesday night. Domeone was alomost killed and I don't see any coverage.

I see two bridges in New Iberia having problems. The Vida Bridge is now history. We don't care about a problem until it affects a certain few, evidently.  When crossings become limited, traffic becomes bottle-necked and conjested. Just as soon I guess, the roads are so bad, can't get anywhere in a hurry without problems anyway.

For all who voted dem because of change I am sure this is not what you thought, I guess this is why all the Obama supporters are quite.  Very quitely the gov is growing and more people are losing their jobs, know why? To lower all Americans wages to fit the global wage, very quitely you will see people from India, Pakistan and more asians as you see in the UK. Don't believe me ? Last week report cards were handed out at my son's school; parents were told they could pick their child's report card up and speak to their teachers. While I was waiting in the hall to speak to one of my son's teachers I overheard a conversation between 2 sets of parents, they were bashing the teacher who's class room they stood in front of because apparently her class was too hard. I was appauled at what I heard. In front of their children they were saying what a horrible teacher she was, and her class was too difficult. One of the parents said that this was the only class her child was doing poorly in, and when she asked him why he was doing so bad, he said it was because he did not like the teacher. So she went on and on about how it was the teachers fault that her child was not getting an A in that class. Well, all I can say to that is TUFF! Who cares if your child does not like the teacher, that should have no impact on your childs grades. All this woman was doing was making excuses for her child being lazy! Instead of coming down on the teacher because she is not liked why not come down on the child for not doing what he was supposed to do. It is not the teachers job to be liked, it is not a popularity contest it is his education. Why not make that a learning experience for the boy? Tell him the world is full of people he will not like, or will not like him, and he will just have to deal with it and move on. But no, it is always someone elses fault. Make him accountable for his actions. I spoke to the teacher after she and the other parents spoke to her, and she told me that she has purposefully made the test easier, because she had complaints that her test were too difficult. By the way, I did not tell her what I had overheard. What the teacher told me really upset me. Once again the masses have to suffer because of a few. Lets dumb down the curriculm because she will not put forth the effort to help her child. Thanks whoever you are. Thank you for hindering my childs education because you are too busy watching television to help your child with his studies. But, unfortunately her son will suffer in the end, because of her stupidity. He will probley be the guy working at McDonalds who gives me the wrong order, because his momma  did not make him accountable. Good Luck Little Buddy! You will need it.

I am looking for Missouri Pacific railroad pictures when that particular railroad ran through New Iberia. I am particularly interested in any pictures of the trains passing down the tracks that ran down Pershing Street and the spur that ran down Fulton Street to the Missouri Pacific railroad warehouse that still stands near the Bayou Teche at the corner of Fulton and Jefferson St. My grandmother has a few pictures of the train passing between Bank and First streets. I really want copies of the train anywhere down the lines in New Iberia. I found some pictures of the roundhouse between Fulton and Jane streets on the MoPac page on google. I even contacted an engineer who used to operate MoPac engines in New Iberia and he sent me a few pictures. I also would like to see any pictures of the old Jefferson Island line that ran to the Diamond Crystal Salt mine before the Lake Peignure incident. I can see where it crossed the Jefferson Island highway and where it made its way to the salt mine. Some crossings still have rails under the asphalt. My grandfather used to work for the Missouri Pacific railroad when steam engines were still in use. I would settle for pictures of the track itself when it still existed on Pershing street. I found a picture of the last train to run down the track in a Daily Iberian article that ran in the late 1960's or early 70's at the Library. It shows the train at the Ann street crossing where the hump is today. If anybody knows anyone who has any pictures and would be willing to make copies for me I would appreciate and treasure them very much. I have been told stories of the railroad in New Iberia all my life but all I have to visualize is my imagination and my grandmothers pictures. They lived right next to the tracks on Pershing Street. I remember the Jefferson Island spur going through West End park and crossing the Southern Pacific(BNSF) line by Anderson street. The new Park elementary school on Admiral Doyle actually sits right where that track once passed. You can still see the crossing. It was pulled up when I was little before I could really appreciate it. I try to trace the line by looking at old crossings and track beds in the area and try to visualize how it might have looked but it's not the same as having pictures. If anyone can help me out I will be happy to forward my contact information at a later date.

The federal government will be paying subsidies to over 60% of Americans as part of the Obamacare system.That makes for a very, very large dependent class, one that will start voting to protects its welfare payments rather than challenge the power of the federal nannies that provide it.

The United States Department of Treasury wrote a blank check on December 24, 2009 to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac removing the $ 400 Billion limit on how much money the Treasury could pour into the two failed mortgage companies. In total, the US taxpayers are on the hook for more than 2 trillion of bailouts of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. Just wait till our government takes over the health care debacle- Obama "promised" (again) that the health care reform will be DEFICIT NEUTRAL- Another Taxpayers Massacre. Where is the report from the Police Chiefs  Association for bring back NIPD. I carry for protection for me and my family, both in my car and in my home. I dont carry in public places, I leave it in the car. I know its legal to have a fire arm in your car with out a CCL, but I would want to get it to be better safe than sorry, and if I ever have the need to carry it some place other than my house or my car.

A father (in Yemen if memory serves) lets us know that his son has ties to terrorists and is afraid his son will try to harm us, so we put him on the "don't fly list." Of course Homeland Security drops the ball and he ends up attempting to light the bomb in his underwear. The only thing that stopped a plane full of people from being killed was that some passengers saw what the guy was doing and stopped him. When Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano was asked about it in an interview she said "the system worked."  WHAT?!!!!  If the guy made it past the secuity guy with the scanner, then a bomb sniffing dog discovered  the bomb that is one thing. After that, if she is interviewed and asked how in the world did the guy get past the first security check point, she could say that is why we have several layers of security, and the system did indeed work. But can someone explain to me how a terrorist gets through all the security checkpoints, then as the plane is preparing to land the guy tries to set off the explosion and the only thing that stops the explosion is passengers on the plane. Please explain to me how the system worked in this case? Well today someone with tuberculosis who is on the Homeland Security don't fly list flies from Philly to San Francisco. I guess if none of the passengers come down with tuberculosis  "Big Sis" Napolitano will again say the system worked. A soldier in the Army is emailing Al Queida, we know about and do nothing, then he kills several soldiers and civilans at the base in Texas, everyone seemingly asleep at Homeland Security. Oh yeah, I feel safe.

 The Daily Iberian recently honored a local musician that passed away, Ned Theall of the Boogie Kings. As an informed mother of 3, I often check through the sex offenders website. I first noticed this man on the site years ago. When I saw that he passed away, I re-checked the site to see if he was listed. He is. Too bad the Daily Iberian couldn't have been better sleuths before glorifing this man.

I would like to know if the Sheriff Office is honoring the current city contract requirements as far as assigned city units per shift in the city limits of New Iberia?  The reason for thew questions is there are at least 20+ patrol units parked at the back of the jail facility.  I also have knowledge that the patrol division is at least 15+ deputies short.  Officer Adcock and Mr. Decourt aren't harping on this issue now that Ackal is in office......is it NOT important any more?

I've heard a rumor there was a recall on Mary Landrieu. Does anybody have any information they could pass on so I could sign up.

When is The Daily Iberian going to start putting articles online again? I've moved out of New Iberia but would still like to know what's going on. The Daily Iberian is the best source of information for New Iberia, but for us out of towners, when there are only one or two articles a day at most, it makes itself about equal with the Advertiser or something, which has much less articles on New Iberia.

did you know that a teenager (15 years old) can curse out their parent, punch their mother in the face several times, break her glasses, and when the parent uses force to defend herself, the IPSO will arrest the parent for "putting her hands on the child"? this is ridiculous!  all a teenager has to do is lie.... especially without any marks to show proof.  here you have a mother with a swollen forehead and broken glasses to prove the abuse and a teenager without a single mark, and the parent gets in trouble.... WOW!  what is this world coming to?  this is the exact reason that the teenagers today have no respect for authority and are always breaking laws!
