I guess the reader who responded to my response to Mr. Wyche told me. Let me first say that I have no hate towards Mr. Wyche personally. I do have a very high dislike for his writings that seem to nitpick everything the President say or does. It's like he's trying to find anything wrong with the man. Our former President lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He advocated a war where people are dying! This is not a game, yet he gets a pass because he is trying to make America safer. Our current President is trying to fulfill his campaign promises of affordable healthcare for all Americans which would be more valuable to us than starting and maintaining a war that has reached trillions of dollars to fund, but he is being irresponsible and lying to the American people? Am I in the twilight zone? Any rational person would see that this ideology is rooted in something more than just disagreeing with the President. People who aren't racist do not start ranting with "I am not a racist" especially if no one could tell their race by reading the paper. This means that whoever is doing the writing knows that they are indeed a racist. I'm not stupid and the person who responded to my response cannot be objective because he/she is Mr' Whyche's friend. Of course you are going to say that he is not a racist because you don't see anything wrong with what he thinks. As far as me being in my own clouded little world, I'm not the one sitting here jumping on every word that the President says so I can run to the Daily Iberian and say "you see what he said! you see what he said he trying to force socialism down our throat, he's unpatriotic because he didn't sing the National Anthem or put his hand on his chest, or jump up and down while rubbing his head and touching his nose, he's trying to bankrupt American... I mean c'mon! I could say the same thing about Mr. Wyche for writing these responses. He is more unpatriotic in my book then the President for being disrepectful to the office of President because it is currently held by a black man. Is Mr. Wyche really telling the truth or is he the one distorting the facts?
Multi-tasking; some people can do it while others simply can't. I'm speaking of driving while talking on a cell phone. How many time have you been behind someone whom you know is on their cell phone because they're going about 20 MPH under the speed limit, or they're sitting at a green light waiting and waiting, or they're stopped at an intersection and there's no stop sign. Ever travel down a 4-lane and a slow person is in the passing lane just oblivious to everything but their conversation.

I'm wondering how other New Iberia residents pronounce two local street names:
History can be very interesting. I found an article from Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi dated August 1,
OKay i dont see why we cant have cell phones at school some people need them and then if they take it from you twice they take it for the whole year. i think they should pay the bill if they are going to take it for the rest of the year and some students drive and have jobs and they need the phone.

After watching ABC News on Friday evening, I felt compelled to put my opinion in writing. There was a profile on a public, inner city, charter school called Chicago Urban Prep. This school took male students who could have easily gone the wrong way, gave them a watch, uniforms, and hope for the future. These young men rose to the challenge and will all graduate in May with acceptance into a college or university. They are well disciplined and take pride in what they've become. They have high hopes for the future and those futures look bright. I want to point out that these students were expected to dress well and conduct themselves in ways that would not inhibit the learning process. They go to school from 8:30 to 4:30. As stated in the profile, this is their job. This school is preparing them for life in the real, wage-earning world. I want to ask parents again to please support us teachers when we ask you to supply your children with clean, proper fitting uniforms. We have breakfast and lunch for them. In some instances, we have supplies for them. But we cannot go home with them, get them to bed at a reasonable time, and properly dress them for school. You can't imagine what a huge difference a professional appearance makes. Your child will have pride in himself/herself and you will be proud to see the little minds blossom. Thank you again to the many parents who already support us (the teachers). We really do love the kids and want what's best for them. I have attached a link for the profile. http://abcnews.go.com/WN/tim-king-students-urban-prep-charter-academy-persons/story?id=10088324
Everytime that I drive down Center Street I always get aggravated at the line of broke down vacuum cleaners on the sidewalk outside an old business. Center Street for the most part is already an eyesore. The last thing that it needs are old vacuums sitting out. Does anyone know who is responsible for code enforement in New Iberia. I drive around our town and see violation after violation. If code enforcement would get serious about their jobs, our little town would be alot prettier.
You know, if there is one think that I have a hard time tolerating, it is someone who is given a little authority and they forget where they come from. I have known our mayor for a very long time, my parents were really close to her husband's parents and she knows my mother very well, however, when I run into her someplace, she asks like she has no idea who I am. Did she forget who help put her in office? Although she may be in the "limelight", she needs to remember she is only the mayor of New Iberia and not a superstar on the red carpet. Come back down to earth Hilda!! Acknowledge people you know when you meet up with them and who helped you get where you are!
I just voted on the question of whether there should be cameras on the school busses. It seems that 6% of voters are aganist this proposal!
With everyone feeling the economy crunch, what a better way to help our local business owners and spend your hard earn dollars locally first before bringing it to economies that are already booming. There are still people who give you that special attention that you cannot find elsewhere. Being born and raised here, I personally feel that New Iberia's character is slowly declining and we need to help keep our city alive.
Obama and the Democrats are asking their SHEEP to contact their Represenatives to get them to vote for his Health Care Bill!!!
I was watching the news last night about the 9 year old boy in Lake Charles that was being held captive in his home. The boy only weighed 38 or 39 lbs and was forced to watch his siblings eat as he was starving. The report said that the boy would have to eat his own waste sometimes to survive. I just can't get those images out of my mind! I would love to have 5 minutes alone with those "parents". It's upsetting to me how sick some people can be.

Its time for someone to turn the light switch on because the taxpayers have been in the dark for far to long on this and other issues. As I have said before repeatidly no one knows what goes on behind closed doors.Keep closing the doors and leaving the lights off and see what will happens.Come election time all 15 of you will be gone pecans.

Great add Senator Hebert. You left off the snitch fund the DA's office controls. How much money is paid to "informants"? How many people in the three parish area know the DA also pays troopers an hourly rate to write tickets, off duty, meet the ticket quot, get a check. Maybe a bounty on thieves and rapist would pursuade law enforcemet to go after the real criminals in the parish? Keep it up Troy, Louisiana may get rid of corrupt politicians yet.
Remember when President Bush and the Republicans pushed through the Patriot Act? The Democrats went bananas. They said how wrong it was. Well guess what, with the Democrats in control of EVERYTHING (they have a majority in the Senate, the House, and the White house) the Patriot Act was just renewed. What a bunch of hypocrites!!

What are those horrible huge concete poles doing on front street by the Jefferson Street Bridge? Those poor people living in the house. What is the new bridge on Jefferson going to look like-can you post a drawing? Remember we all asked that the new bridge be picturesque and fit in with the historical designs of the time and not like that huge bridge on Lewis. Thanks.

President Obama today declared the debate over. He and the demo-socialists have decided that we are too stupid to make up our own minds, and they are going to ram Obama care down our throats. Pelosi has told her sheep that they have to vote for this even if it costs them their job.

Does anyone remember all of the locations of all of the Broadcast stations, Radio & TV stations that called New Iberia Home? In my life time, I can remember that KANE radio had four various locations, above DH Castille's at the corner of Iberia and St. Peter, at the corner of Bank and Main, on Main across from Iberia General, and their present location on Main. KNIR radio was located on Daspit road not far from Food & Fun then moved to the old Taylor's building at the corner of Main and French. Later KXKC and KDEA radio took up shop in the old Taylor's building prior to moving to Lafayette. KADN and KLNI TV stations were located on Hwy 90 near Broussard. I'm just curious and would like to see any pictures of these studios if there are any available.

My wife and I are considering buying a house on the Bayou and were concerned about our pets. We have two cats and a small dog. I was wondering if anyone living on Bayou Teche has ever lost a pet to an alligator, or if anyone sees alligators in the bayou often? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Has anyone received a packet in the mail from the American Community Survey? It is supposedly connected to the U.S. Census. The American Community Survey is sent out to 2.5 percent of the population. It asks all kinds of questions, such as how much money do you make, how much money you get from social security, how much money you get from land that you own, how much is your electric and gas bill, etc. Also, does anyone actually know what really happens if you refuse to answer this?
I see a handfull of people and NO public officials showed up to John's pathetic attempt to stay relevant in parish politics. The poor old guy has become somewhat of a joke as of late. His silly rants have been compared to the sensative kid in school being picked last for baseball games in P.E. It's sad when the fella has a good heart, just an outdated mindset. Perhaps it's time to go quietly in the night with what little diginity is left John.
How well is the Iberia Parish School Sytstem working? Are there any exceptional schools in the parish? I am just curious as to how our students are performing.

Time and time again people have criticized me and other people on this Forum for being critical about President Obama!!!
Once again, the sound of gunfire was heard in Jeanerette this past weekend. What was once a rare event is now becoming more frequent. This, together with robberies and assaults, is destroying this little town. What is the solution? Is it a stronger government, or should it be neighborhood watches formed by genuine concerned citizens? Until an answer is found, let us pray for this community that is falling apart.
There are young children (junior high age) constantly driving golf carts and four-wheelers in the area of Astor Place, Terrell Court, and neighboring streets. While I understand that these young people like to have fun, especially with the weather warming up, it's dangerous and illegal.
Please pray for our little Lucille, "Lucy" Johnson, who is 4 years old, and last Sunday evening, she was stricken was a serious illness, which has been diagnosed as a herinated disk in her lower back rendering her right leg paralyzed and at this time paralysis is setting in her left leg. Now, she is confined to her bed, but she is in good spirits, we sincerely appreciate your thougths and prayers at this time, The Johnson Family

I need some help finding the owners of a dog. This is a basset/beagle mix that was found wandering originally on Indest, where a nice gentleman put her in a fenced yard, she escaped and was found on Parkview where she was almost hit by a car, my daughter brought her home. She is a pretty old girl from the looks of the white on her face. Please help me find her home, I can't keep her, I already have two rescues at my house, the Humane Society is full and I do not want her euthanized, she still has a lot of life left in her. Help please. 337/256-1617.

Hello Readers I been living here only a few months I'm zoned for Park Elementary I am very unhappy with this school. Am I the only parent that feels that the faulty is rude, speaking mainly of the office personal from the head to the secertary.
How about a "memory lane" post? I remember in the 60's when there were hardly any fast food restaurants in town. We had Master Chef on Center and Adm. Doyle where Burger King is now. Freezo on Center where the laudromat is next to McDonalds. Ducks on Parkview and a place with fast food and pinball machines on or near Deare Street, if I remember correctly it was called Deare's. The only other one I remember is Burger Chef in what is now Hardees. Back then it was a rare treat to get fast food. Now most people eat out 3 or 4 nights a week. I remember going to the Pontchartrain Beach amusement park in New Orleans, riding the kiddie train in a park in New Orleans. Going to Grand Isle and belly surfing on those styrofoam surf boards. Also having to wear tennis shoes because there was so many crabs in the water they would pinch your toes. I remember dad setting up two poles in the water with a string between them and bait them. We would catch crabs and boil them right there on the beach. Going to Astroworld. Arriving in Houston, buying tickets for an Astros game later that day, and able to get great seats. That's impossible today. I remember having only 3 tv stations to watch. I remember watching the Ed Sullivan Show. Anyone remember the guy that would have all of those plates spinning at one time? I was born just a little too late to have seen the Beatles on Ed's show. I was alive, but in diapers. I remember only being able to watch cartoons on Saturday morning. I remember riding to Lafayette and there was nothing but cane fields all the way. My parents told us that in not too many years from now there would be one business after another for just about the whole way, and us kids laughing at that comment. I remember it being sort of a big deal to go to the Northgate Mall. The hot spot was the record shop across from the Orange Julius. There was a tiny little arcade in that mall, and for us kids it was heaven. You could go in there with 5 dollars and play all day. Montgomery Wards had "everything." Just north of Lafayette was Carnival Beach. Good times. Care to share your memories?
Why was the article concerning Sias, the principal arrested for drugs, counterfeiting, etc, not put on the DI website? Are "the powers that be" hoping to keep this hypocrisy toned down. Come on, I know there are many of you out there who are waiting to chomp at the bit on this one. He was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, counterfeit money and devices, and NOW he wants back pay and benefits from the school board. What do we look like...babbling idiots? I say to Sias, clear your name and be cleared of ALL charges, then go job hunting. If you were just in the wrong place (aka, your home) at the wrong time, you'll be found innocent. Then you can be around children again. It's a little ironic that he's accused of these wrongdoings, yet he was the principal at the school for misguided youth. Must have been some awful good lessons at that school.

I need everyone's help here. I have a 14 year old niece coming in from out town to spend the summer with us. I am trying to find things for her to do so she won't be bored to tears. I was looking for maybe a babysitting class or day camps for that age group. Can anyone help with suggestions or links to sites that can help me. Thanks!!
I would like to know how in the world the LPSC can allow Cleco to rob it customers like it's doing. In this months bill I used less kwh and my bill was more than last month. They added on a bunch of bs and made it look legit. Is there a way that we can get away from cleco and bring in a company who is honest with their customers instead of having to deal with these crooks. What's the use in trying to save energy if they are going to charge you more for less use.
Does anyone have any information about the semi pro baseball team that played a couple of games at the Acadiana Ballpark last year ? Will they play here again ?
Vicarious redemption, the idea that watching an innocent person suffer, that you could be freed not only from you debts or your sins but also you responsiblities. You can cast your sins on a "scapegoat". I don't just oppose that disgusting belief, but I oppose the Juedaism from which it's plegiarized and the Islam that plegiarizes from it. This is truly a nightmarish belief.

I'v lived in New Iberia all my life and I remember when I was a kid we had many outings in city park . We would go there with extended family and bar-b-q at the pavillions when there were bar-b-q pits provided by the city. I took my family this weekend so the grandchildren could enjoy the park and do some skateboarding. We had to bring our own bar-b-q pit because there are no pits avaliable and the only one that is there is rotted out.

You seem to have a lot of hate within you for Mr. Wyche. Perhaps you ought to look in a mirror before you spout off on an educated man's opinions. Maybe Mr. Wyche does disect what President Obama says, but someone ought to. The President would rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth. People like you, when faced with an opinion contrary to yours, always play the race card. You obviously don't know that Mr. Wyche spends most of every week helping the less fortunate, regardless of race and since I know him very well, there isn't a racist bone in his body. Just thought you'd like to know a little about the man you are so vehemently attacking, not that it will make any difference in your tiny, clouded world.

I would like to know what is up with the turn signal at the intersection of Old Jeanerette Rd and Emile Verret Rd (by the Econo Mart). I have gotten stuck there through several green lights with no turn signal at night. Last night was another example......I had to sit through 3 lights before I finally had to go straight and then turn around and come back to turn onto Old Jeanerette rd. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Is there a sensor or something?

I'm getting really tired of picking up my paper and reading the weekly ranting of James Wyche. He doesn't like President Obama, we get it already Mr. Wyche! I don't need your over analysis of every comment the President says. It doesn't change my opinion of him. I think if people like you would give him a chance he might actually be able to do something positive for this country. Of course if he were to succeed in any phase of his presidency the whole myth of black people being ignorant and stupid might be revealed as only a myth. I feel like I'm living in the 1950's and 60's when individuals marched and protested to have minorities treated as citizens of this country. There were always the naysayers who tried to do everything in their power to block change, even going as far as digging up dirt on the individuals who stood as the face of the civil rights movement. I have a question for Mr. Wyche, where was all the hostility and animosity when President Bush sent troops to war for mythical weapons of mass destruction. You twist President Obama's words and try to incite a rise from individuals who are as ignorant as you are, yet you and your friends probably supported a war where fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, wives, husbands, brothers, and sisters died as a result of lies. That's the real travesty. We get a president who has tried, despite every hurdle, obstacle, fillibuster, stubborn resistance thrown at him since day one, to fulfill his campaign promises and he's the liar?! If he fails Mr. Wyche, you and those narrowminded like you will have yourselves to blame. You never even gave him a chance I would be willing to bet that you have at some point referred to someone black as the N-word and it might have been the President. You can try to fool others and yourself, but I know a bigot when I see one and I think you do too Maybe if you opened your mind you might see that you do not live in this world alone. If you have any better ideas to fix healthcare and the economy why don't you write your congressman instead of constantly sending your thinly at best veiled hate to this paper.

Throughout most of the state each parish has its own district attorney and district judges. There is no reason for Iberia, St. Mary and St. Martin to have to share one district attorney and 8 judges.
