Emily Laszczak and Kristen LeJeune watched their New Iberia Senior High teammates Lanie Hoffpauir and Rebecca Landry play in the first Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star Classic at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette last summer.

On Saturday, LeJeune and Laszczak will have their own moment in the spotlight at the All-Star Classic being played at UL-Lafayette’s soccer pitch. The two will represent the West squad when the girls’ game is played starting at 4 p.m. New Iberia’s Daniel Victorino will represent the West in the boys’ game at 7 p.m.

“It was really fun,” said Laszczak of last year’s game. “It was cool that two of our girls from New Iberia were picked for it.”

The teams will have only one short practice the day of the game to become acquainted with each other. LeJeune has the advantage of having played on the Cajun Soccer Club Rage team with three other West squad members the last couple of seasons -- Macie Foreman of Teurlings Catholic, Jade Theriot of Acadiana and Yanci Johnson of Natchitoches Central.

Several other players from the Acadiana area also will be on the West team -- Acadiana’s Alex Bacque, St. Thomas More’s Danielle Murphy, Teurlings Catholic’s Jenci Anzalone, Lafayette’s Maeve Brennan and Lauren Broussard, and Opelousas Catholic’s Ashleigh Wagley.

“I know a lot of people on the team because of all the years I’ve played around Louisiana,” said LeJeune. “That’s definitely going to affect the way the game is played.”

Vandebilt Catholic and St. Louis Catholic each have three girls on the squad. Vandy is represented by Anna Champagne, Katie Falgout and Sydne Neal. St. Louis players are Alexandra Gallier, Cyndy Catters and Rahseema Clark. Rounding out the West team are Annie Kinler of Hahnville, Ellen Dean and Megan Wilder of C.E. Byrd, Katie Dehart of Morgan City and Lindsay Constant of E.D. White.

The East team is dominated by players from the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas. Three New Orleans schools account for five players on the team -- Mount Carmel (Alanna DiVittorio and Jessica Merkel), St. Scholastica (Camille Sheperd, Danielle Beatty) and Dominican (Emily Cobena).

Baton Rouge-area players include Callie Allbright and Emily Cancienne of Baton Rouge High, Aslyn Verrett and Kelsey Sanders of St. Michael, Grace Gremillion of St. Joseph, Kaleigh Redhead of Episcopal, Caitlyn Roddy of East Ascension and Chelsea Cruthirds of Dutchtown.

Also on the squad are Alexa Herbers and Shelby Latino of Fontainbleau, Abby Chowns and Grace Thaxton of Ouachita Christian, Cecilia Acosta of Ruston, Erin Riche of Holy Savior Menard, Mali Cali of St. Thomas Aquinas, Shelbi Moeller of Catholic-Pointe Coupee and Tori Redding of West Monroe.

Both LeJeune and Laszczak said they are looking forward to playing alongside, and against, some of the state’s best players.

“I know their names from high school, but some of them I haven’t played (against),” said Laszczak.

“I’m looking forward to playing with new people and getting a new experience,” said LeJeune. “I’m pretty excited.”

The players report Saturday morning, meet their coaches and practice, then take a lunch break before returning for team photos, followed by the game.

Laszczak, who hasn’t played or practiced much since the high school season ended, said she will just be “trying to hang with everybody.”

LeJeune, meanwhile, is already at UL-Lafayette, preparing for her freshman season with the Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team.

She said that the outcome of Saturday’s game will depend on how well the players on each team mesh.

“I guess it depends on how the girls want to play -- as a team or as individuals,” said LeJeune.

Victorino’s West teammates include several Acadiana players including Avery Winn, Marshall Deaton and Lance Angelle of Lafayette High, Brandt Aymond and Dylan Vidrine of Beau Chene, Matt Derise and Tyler Gouber of St. Thomas More, Michael Hollier of Teurlings and Nick Montz and Nick Sabo of Acadiana High.

The rest of the team features Adam France and Zach Drouilhet of St. Louis, Alex Blandin of Caddo Magnet, Alvais Coronel and Michael Miller of DeRidder, Chris Watson, Michael Ortego and T.J. Freeman of Vandebilt, Daniel Poole of Byrd, Jordan Galjour of E.D. White and Logan Calhoun of Captain Shreve.

The boys’ East team includes Alexi Patrou, Joseph Hart and Patrick Culotta of Jesuit, Brian Flint of St. Martin’s, Carlos Hermosillo of East Ascension, Darryl Phillips and Jordan Scott of Brother Martin, Grant Auzenne of Dutchtown, Guy Scoggin and Mason Nevev of Newman, Jack Hymel and Thomas Boyer of Catholic-Baton Rouge, Jeremy Perkins of Alexandria, Landon Lyons of Episcopal-Baton Rouge, Manuel Sanchez of St. Thomas Aquinas, Matt Campbell of Runnels, Stephan Fletcher of St. Michael’s, Taylor Scala and Will Major of University, Trey Labat of St. Paul’s and Zak Smith of Northlake Christian.
