Students will soon be surfing the Web at high speed.

Work is under way to bring high speed Internet access to Belle Place Mid-dle School by laying fiber optic cable along Louisi-ana 86 (Loreauville Road), said Al Landry, a foreman for Gulfgate Con-struction.

“We started laying pipe down last Thursday and once we’re finished, we’re going to come back and start laying down the fiber optics cable,” Landry said. “We should be finished in about two to three weeks. Then Belle Place will have high speed Internet.”

Iberia Parish  Superin-tendent of Schools  Dale Henderson said the School Board’s initiative is to provide every student in the parish with high speed access to the Internet.

The conclusion of the Belle Place fiber optic project will bring the School Board one step closer to finishing its initiative to outfit every school in the parish with high speed ac-cess, Henderson said, ad-ding the majority of schools in the parish already have high speed Internet.

“This is the future of education,” Henderson said.

“Having high speed Internet access increases the opportunities for students to learn and gives them more access to information.”
