Sick of Lafayette Attitude

OK, people, I can just hear some of you licking your lips in anticipation of rebutting me, but I can't take this any longer.  When I mentioned to a friend in Lafayette that I was going out for sushi, she said incredulously, "Y'all have a SUSHI restaurant???"  Jesus God, people, cross the parish line once in a while.  Have you ever met anyone who is actually from Lafayette?  NO.  It's always some jumped-up small-towners who got a halfway decent education and decided to haul it to the "big city"; now they are spending a fortune on this plastic Lafayette lifestyle and filling their yards with gargantuan terra cotta urns and non-native palm trees that have to be replaced every year because they were never meant to live here.  Don't tell me you're from Lafayette when we all know you're from Cankton or Meaux or Ebenezer or wherever, and please lose the posture that everything outside of Lafayette is pitiful.  Have you ever tried New Orleans, or even Baton Rouge?  I wonder what will happen to all of the River Raunch people when the next new "in" subdivision crops up?  They'll be stuck in these styrofoam stucco houses with twenty-four roof peaks and no resale value, going "What the heck happened?"  And for the record, I am not miserable, I don't need you to pray for me, I'm not jealous, and I know that there are much more important things in life, so I need to lighten up.  Have I relieved any of you of the urge to respond?  I hope so.

I miss the Franklin I grew up in. Unfortunately city leaders and elites have not kept up with times in attracting new business. There are people to be commended like SMI (Centerville), Duck Contruction, and I hear a boat builder is relocating near Franklin.

When I think of all the good companies and businesses that are gone it does sadden me. Even KFRA, do you remember Tradio?

When Hanson and St John close it will be truly a sad day.

With that I bid farewell. "

The point is the sad truth is Franklin is dying. It is tough for the businesses to survive, the major ones that are gone were not replaced.

I do understand your jealosy of Lafayette. "

And unlike New Iberia, which is trying to be another Lafayette, Franklin has its own character, so we don't need a Sonic! "

A TacoBellKFC could not survive in Franklin. How is the Sonic doing? Thankfully you do have the Forest. How about enjoying a movie at the theater, will you go to the to the Teche or the Center? " My husband was born and raised in Lafayette, I in New Iberia, and we live in New Iberia. Believe me - New Iberia has plenty of attitude!! Pulling onto De LaSalle to enter Catholic High on Monday I got a bit of it myself. I allowed a truck to pull in front of me - and of course - no acknowledgement, no waive thank you, nothing. Like it was their right to go ahead of me. I can't stand it when people think they are entitled... "

" To Proud Ruitanian: Shorts ARE too tight-bought in Lafayette. Should have bought locally. Things are looser here if you know what I mean. "

" Hate Lafayette. Hate New Iberia. I'll stay here in Cypress Island where things move at a much better pace. We're not Bull Island. That's where the University of Slow Learners moved. Would hate to rent in Jeanertte. Loreaville is a real bore. St. Martinville is for the over the hill folks. Coteaux I wish was no-mo. Youngsville doesn't have enough roads. Guess I'll go-a-fishen there is no perfect place. "

" That is soooo true!!!! I thank god that I am from a REAL big city and have lived all over the world. I'm still disgusted at the prices people have to pay here for housing. Where do they think we are? Lafayette is the country. To me its still a town. "

" I LOVE IT!!!! I'm from a small town and moved to New Iberia a few years ago. My wife and I just had our first child and we love New Iberia. Its a far cry from perfect but no place is. We do need more restruants and we need Center Street and Lewis Street to be "cleaned up" but its a nice community. I'll take it over the conjested Lafayette anyday. If we had more food options, we would be so much better. "

" I had a dear old friend who had a saying for these "lafayette" people-he thinks what he sits on is not kin to his face!!!!!!!!! Lafayette nothing more than a wanna be "big" city. SLI/USL is known as ULL NOT UL. Used to be known as University Slow Learners. Now U La La. LSU wanna be's. And the infamous River Raunch-- Nawlins wanna be's to the max. Settled in RR because can't find way to Nawlins! Section 8 in the making. Future projects for Obama people. "
