Do with what you have!

I continue to wonder if the elected officals of this parish truly beleive that the tax payers are either blind or stupid or both, the thought of the Parish council spending 2.5 million dollars on another building for their comfort infuriates me.  The people of Iberia parish have the worst roads of most anywhere I travel, we also have the least costly parish building than any other parish according to the politicians instrumental in having them built.  Remember the parish jail was not going to cost the tax payers one nickel, HA! all we have done is spend nickel after nickel, well thats what they said the money was for anyway.  It is time that all the career politicians and local entrepreneurs who make a living buying and selling foolish politicians their old crap buildings,I suggest you find a new trade.  I am sick and tired of seeing our tax dollars spent for the comfort of a select few and car allowence for them to report to work.  Buy a car and put your own gas in it like the rest of us do!  Can't wait for the next campainge and election!!

" No one ever accused a politician of being frugal with taxpayer dollars. The question might not necessarily be about HOW they waste money, but WHY they waste money. Everytime a government entity awards a contract for what the public considers "wasteful spending", backs are being scratched along the the way. It's how they repay campaign promises to the people they see as the ones that put them in office...which is not the voters .... that would be the business people that bought/financed their candidacy.. "

" Who are you agreeing with as I did not see any mention of bringing back a police force? "

" Hey JVY there's an old saying about always making sure to keep your finger off the trigger unless you're intending to destroy the object you're pointing the gun at. Why? Because once the bullet leaves the barrel you just can't get it back into the gun by saying I made a mistake. The New Iberia City Council and the citizens of New Iberia pulled the trigger of the gun almost 6 years ago and the PD left the barrel destroying many careers. There is no more PD and never will be. It obliterated upon contact with-Sid's-ego. "

" By Liisa Rajala, USA TODAY
Gravel roads, once a symbol of quaint times, are emerging as a sign of financial struggle in a growing number of rural towns.
High costs and tight budgets have prompted communities in Maine, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Vermont to convert or consider converting their cracked asphalt roads back to gravel to cut maintenance costs, officials in those states say. "

" I also have a problem with the parish spending money to add more buildings to the list of buildings that the parish can't afford to maintain right now. It looks like the surplus money is burning a hole in their pockets. Spend - Spend - Spend. If they need to spend this money so badly, why not spend it on the roads, drainage, sewage, etc. Spend almost $3 million on a building and only $500 thousand on roads. GIVE ME A BREAK. Maybe I'll send IPC my car repair bill. "

" Good points. The last thing we need is to spend money so that Bernard Broussard won't be put out by the accomodations that are not up to his standards.

Here's a thought, if you have 2.5 mil to spend, why don't you give it back to us, you know, the ones who gave it to you. "

" Why don't we all just refuse to pay our property taxes, and do all of our shopping online to avoid sales tax, and buy other goods and services from those who are willing to deal strictly cash? We can create an underground economy that these politician mobsters can't get their hands on. Or we could simply demand that the "Fair Tax" be implemented. "

" Here's a suggestion. Of the two new public libraries that no one uses, convert one into the new parish government building. Why this parish added two more libraries within 2 miles of the maim library is beyond belief. They spent millions and now spend more money staffing and maintaining two public buildings that no one ( except those who need free babysitters) uses. They could have given every child a new laptop with internet and still saved money. "
