Worried about gas storage

I just want to say I am worried about this natural gas storage thing that wants to go in at Cote Blanche Island. My main worry is that they are dumping this junk that is pumped out into the  Gulf of Mexico. What is that going to do to the water? What if that stuff gets in our water supply? I think the parish council needs to look into this without just signing off on it. I don't think a few jobs some Texas company is promising is worth risking the health of St. Mary's residents.

This company i s called Henry Gas Storage. I have tried looking it up onlin but I can't find out much about them. All I know is I called my parish councilman and he talked about how this gas company will bring 20 jobs. I just don't think 20 jobs is worth poisoning our water and doing who knows what to fish. We don't know enough about this and  we need to find out more.

" To me the problem is they are going to be pumping 3 million gallons of fresh water per day out of the ground to dissolve the salt for 1 year. That's over a billion gallons and they aren't going to be paying for the water. How much is that going to lower the water table? This is our future drinking water. "

" The dumping of salt water in the ocean will require building a big pipeline that will also destroy habitat and marine life. Is 20 lowpaying jobs worth that? Especially while the fat cats siphon off the real money back to Houston. "

" In fact, there are a number of problems with natural gas storage facilities. I'm not anti-gas or anti-oil industry, but a little bit of internet research reveals gas can leak into water and make people sick. Fires and explosions aren't uncommon, either.

I don't see what the hurry for this project is. If I lived nearby, 'd be worried and want state and federal agencies to explore every angle to this. If there turns out to not be any danger, then give them the permits. But if there is a significant risk to people, isn't that more important? "

" the poison that will be pumped is Brine water (salt that is ) so salt water will upset Vermillion bay that is now brackish due to not enough salt because fresh water has overcome it - interesting argument -that introducing salt to the ocean will affect it - find another argument - just say you have no basis but think it is wrong because of something - "

" The Lousiana Department of Environmental Quality has scheduled a hearing to discuss this project in March due to concerns about waste water and dumping. Apparently, the comnpany is going to have to excavate and will be dumping something called calcium sulfate, that does not dissolve, into nearby waters. It's gunk that settles on the bottom and creates dead zones. So, yes - it's definitely going to have an impact on water quality, and the state is holding a hearing to explore it more. "

" There’s a major difference in oil and natural gas storage I have family working at the mine now and they are not happy. How would you feel working in an environment with natural gas right above or under you? I guarantee you this is very unsafe look at Jefferson island mine with what happen there. "

" Compressed gas storage is not the same as storing oil in old salt mines. would you store propane tanks under your bed? How about a quart of oil? dont you think one is much more dangerous? How deep is the storage facility compared to the chico aquifer, where we all get our water? "

" To: Correcting you because your wrong...there is no storage facility at Morten Salt. It was closed due to water leaking into the caverns. Could it have been because of the constant dynamiting of the salt company? I want to say its been closed for about ten years. But may be wrong on that one.

When I wrote the original response I was Not trying to start anything, just questioning the safety and livlihood of alot local families. "

" I love how some people start a topic and have no clue what there talking about.
What comes out is salt water. Salt water dumped into the salt water gulf. I don't see a problem.

so sick of the " not in my back yard people" "

" I suppose if it was your land they were leasing or buying it wouldn't be that big of a concern, but because it's someone elses...something underhanded and dangerous is going on. Like a company is really going to be allowed to dump natural gas waste or overflowinto the Gulf of Mexico. Sheesh!! This is the 21st century! It'll probably cost more to get rid of the waste properly than they make storing the good stuff. "

" you are right, I can't find anything on this company either. And no one wants to talk about it.

That's nice it will bring 20 jobs to the area...but what happens to the 100s of jobs lost at the salt mine? There is no way anyone can tell me gas storage and salt mines can coexist...simply too dangerous, and not worth the risk of losing lives to find out... "

" How do you know it's going to poison our water? Admittedly you don't have any facts, so why are you assuming the worst? "
