Why?

Why is the City of New Iberia becoming competition for the very business' that bring it tax revenue? The Parks and Recreation Dept. is now offering dance classes! I have no doubt that Ms. Borel is a fine person and wonderful dancer, but I feel the government has no right to offer services that the private sector is offering. If Ms. Borel (or any other person) wants to start a business they should do so like every one else, with their own finances, and not rely on the government for help. If I were an owner of a dance studio in New Iberia, I would be very upset with this. What other business will the city get into next? A grocery store? A mechanic shop? A construction company? Government needs to get out of the way, not interfere , and let the free enterprise system work!

How could anyone complain about a few dollars for free, or reduced price, dancing lessons? How much can that possibly cost?
Teach them dance, karate, acting, boys scouts, civil air patrol, or anything that may get them away from video games and hanging out on street corners. "

This program might not directly prevent crimes, but any positive activity for girls can prevent or delay teen pregnancy. Every year a teenager doesn't get pregnant, her chances of becoming a productive citizen rise sharply, and her children will have a better future. That's worth more than an M-16. "

If most parents would get involved in the lives of their children then maybe we wouldn't need the government to do it for us. This class will not stop 1 crime from being commited in this town. It cost alot more than the price of one bullet to stop violence. It starts in the home. "

Dance classes? For kids??? In a town with a lot of drugs and few positive activities for young people? It's an outrage!
I'm guessing the total outlay for this class is less than the cost of a single M-16 rifle. Don't worry. We can still afford to kill people. "

correct me, but i think the objective of the program is to offer kids who's finances
are limited a chance to learn and perform
dancing that is recreational. i am all for the private sector but this is something
that should be applauded. nird is doing a great job in trying to offer everyone a chance to do something. that is a good thing "
