Westgate takes big step towards district title with win over STM

LAFAYETTE -- Jacoby Colbert had 26 points as Westgate took a major step towards winning the District 4-5A title with a 78-55 blowout win over St. Thomas More Friday.

Brandon Malveaux added 21 for the Tigers (21-8, 5-0), who jumped out to a 29-19 first quarter lead and sealed the win but outscoring STM 24-15 in the third quarter.

The win gives Westgate the district sweep over the Cougars (16-9, 3-2). WHS is currently on an eight game winning streak and plays host to Comeaux Tuesday.

Xavier Blackburn had 23 points for STM.

Comeaux 57, New Iberia 51

LAFAYETTE -- Kenry Lewis had 28 points as Comeaux kept New Iberia Senior High winless in District 4-5A with a 57-51 victory over the Yellow Jackets Friday.

Quincy Hopkins added 12 for the Spartans (17-9, 3-2), who trailed 20-19 at halftime but outscored NISH 38-31 in the second half for the win.

Jalen Jones had 21 points, Delario Austin added 11 points and Kemory Deal chipped in 10 in the loss for NISH, who plays host to Carencro Tuesday.

Northside Christian 62, Assembly Christian 42

Pierce Rivera scored 19 points as Northside Christian handled Assembly Christian in a District 7-C contest Friday.

Levi Hahn added 17 for the Warriors (9-20, 2-0), who led 24-22 at halftime but pulled away in the second half for the win.

Josh Russo had 17 to lead ACS (13-16, 1-1) and Tyler Gachassin added 10.

Assembly Christian plays at Bethel Christian Tuesday.

Centerville 91, Houma Christian 47

CENTERVILLE -- Jovan Sanders scored a game-high 27 points as Centerville avenged an earlier loss by crushing Houma Christian Friday in District 8-B play.

Jonathan Diggs added 15 points and T.J. Kemp had 13 for the Bulldogs (25-10, 3-1), who roared out to a 26-14 first quarter lead in avenging a 79-72 loss at Houma Christian on Jan. 26.

Greg White led Houma Christian (16-4, 3-1) with 18 points and Nate Frye added 13.

Centerville plays at ESA Tuesday.

Opelousas Catholic 55, Jeanerette 45

JEANERETTE -- Darius Ricard had 16 points and Brandon Vallery added 15 as Opelousas Catholic took an early lead and pulled away late to beat Jeanerette in DIstrict 6-2A action Friday.

The Vikings (9-15, 4-3) lead 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, 27-24 at halftime and 40-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Jeanerette (2-18, 2-4) was led by Marcus Joseph and Douglas Jenkins, who each had 14 points.

The Tigers travel to Ville Platte Tuesday.

Port Barre 57, Loreauville 24

PORT BARRE -- Reginald Hebert had 13 points and Perez Pickney added 10 as Port Barre blew past Loreauville 57-24 in District 6-2A Friday.

The Red Devils (20-3, 6-1) took control of the game in the second quarter by outscoring LHS 18-4.

Kyle Francois led Loreauville (13-10, 2-5) with 10 points. The Tigers play host to Sacred Heart Tuesday.

Delcambre 60, Vermilion Catholic 47

DELCAMBRE -- Carl Taylor scored a game-high 22 points as Delcambre used a strong second-half effort to beat Vermilion Catholic 60-47 Friday in District 7-A.

Jacob Broussard added 11 for the Panthers (15-10, 4-2), who trailed 30-29 at halftime but outscored VCHS 31-17 in the second half to claim the win.

VC’s Jacob Broussard scored 19 and Emile Chaisson added 17 for the Eagles (9-13, 2-4).

Delcambre travels to Ascension Episcopal Tuesday.

Ascension Episc. 54, Hanson 40

FRANKLIN -- Skye Mejia had 19 points as Ascension Episcopal took control early and beat Hanson 54-40 in District 7-A Friday.

The Blue Gators (5-20, 1-5) held Hanson to two points in the first quarter and only nine at halftime in building a 12 point lead at the break and holding on for the win.

Brandon Leblanc led HMS (7-15, 3-3) with 12 points. The Tigers play host to Central Catholic Tuesday.

St. Martinville 58, Beau Chene 54

PRAIRIE BASSE -- Lance Charles led a trio of St. Martinville player in double-figures as the Tigers held off Beau Chene 58-54 Friday in District 6-4A.

Charles had 18 points, Cedric George added 11 and Joseph Landry chipped in 10 for SMSH (20-11, 7-2), who led 40-34 at the end of the third quarter and held off the Gators (14-14, 1-7) for the win.

Joseph Charles had 24 for BCHS.

St. Martinville plays host to Cecilia Tuesday.
