RYNELLA — A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Elaine Primeaux Derouen, 90, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at St. Marcellus Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until services.

A native of Jefferson Island and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Derouen passed away peacefully at 3 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Dauterive Hospital.

Mrs Derouen, affectionately known as “Mitt” was a homemaker who enjoyed being surrounded with family and friends. Mitt loved playing cards, especially boureé, dancing, canning foods and entertaining. She was a jokester who loved a good laugh and brought smiles to the faces of anyone around her. She leaves behind many fond memories and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children Mabel Broussard and husband, Gerald, Carol Maturing and husband, Ivy, Kenneth Derouen and wife, Dianna, and Dean Derouen and wife, Laura, all of New Iberia; Mary Scott and husband, Jim, of Cape Coral, Fla., Al Derouen and wife, Joan, of Humble, Texas, and Cindy Buffington and husband, Tony, of Shreveport; 29 grandchildren; numerous great- and great- great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law Herta Derouen of Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Derouen; daughter and son-in-law Juanita D. White and Frank White; son Russell Derouen; granddaughter Sonja Derouen; grandson Kevin Broussard; parents, Clemile and Elzina Morvant Primeaux; sisters Viola Reed and Agnes Segura LeBlanc; and brothers Alton and Douglas Primeaux.

Pallbearers will be Aaron LeBlanc, Kenny Derouen Jr., Richard White, Tommy Maturin, Jeffery Derouen and Alphonse Derouen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Broussard, Wayne White, Caleb Maturin, Kury Buffington, Pharell Romero, John Derouen and Beau Derouen.
