Handicap reform

Disabled

I am disabled and have special needs for a parking space that allows me to use my wheelchair ramp.  I get sick and tired of seeing totally capable people park in these spaces and just get out of their car and walk into the store.  What has happened to the real intent of these spaces?  It seems as though if you get a blister, you can acquire a handicap parking permit.  It is time for government to crack down on this abuse.  Why is it if you have diabetes, or a heart condition, or any other ailment that does not prevent you from exiting your vehicle to park and walk in a store?  Funny thing is; follow these people into the store and you'll see them walk a mile once in the store.  Shame on all you abusers of the handicap parking permits.  It's time for all of us who really need the permits to ban together and get reforms put in place to stop this abuse.  This is not directed to the people who really need the spaces.  Just the abusers.

" You don't know a person's disability by looking at them. Someone with a bad heart may walk all over the store alright, but never know when they'll have difficulty getting BACK to their car.

If you saw me park in my handicapped spot, you'd think "there goes another healthy guy on two legs," except I only have one leg, and sometimes a lot of shopping can make it difficult for me to keep going.

Don't get me started on that gut who uses the handicapped spot with no permit at Starbucks every day. "

" To Mamma and Blessed Day:
It's you people who 'disabled" is talking about. Those spaces were intended for people who need special assistance to exit their vehicle to be able to even enter the stores. Not because you have some ailment or other condition. If you can walk on two legs, you are not handicapped in my opinion, needing these spaces. "

" Who are you to judge. Why don;t you just ride around in your little wheelchair and take license plates, find out who the vehicle belongs to and find out their disability. Have a blessed day and remember who are you to judge and don't begrudge your fellow disabled a place to park because their problem may be just as bad as your or maybe they choose to keep walking instead of giving in to their pain and choose not to be pited by riding a wheelchair. Some people are jsut lazy and chose to ride a wheel chair! "

" P.S.So to make fun & call names' about someone youy don't know & asume the worse is not right. Ask the person, myself...I would gladly tell you why I'm parking there. If I see the elderly or the crippled trying to park closer, I let them have the spot& I'll park a little further, I might pay for it later, being tired walking a little further, but my consience is clear. Don't judge a book by it's cover, that's all. "

" YES, I agree with evryone of you, but there are people with disabiletys' you can't see. I for myself am a little over weight ,I'm in my middle 50's, I have a bad heart[not due to my weight] but from very high fever when I was real young, I've had two values replaced [aortic 7 mitrel ]7 last year ,I had a type of cancer in my back[sorcoma] & 5to look at me, you would never know I am & was sick. I have a mirror tag to hang on my mirror, so I can park closer. "

" Sadly there is nothing we can do about lowlifes who ask their doctors for these tags, and we can't do anything about the lowlife doctors who hand them out. My question is, when someone WITHOUT a handicapped tag parks in a handicap spot, if we call the police will something actually be done. Does anyone know for sure one way or the other? "

" I have that problem with my moma. She is also handicapped. We have a thing that goes over the mirror in the car. When I see someone in a space with no indication of being entitled to that space I have called the police. This society has become very lazy and it isnt fair to people who need these spaces. "

" These people who go through the trouble of getting a handicap sign to hang from their mirror when they don't really need one, are the type who have successfully sued numerous people or companies over frivolous things. I tend to stay far away from them. They fake their injuries, or they had the pre-existing injury before they were hired by their employer. Then when they hurt themselves again they sue the company. They also make claims after every hurricane even when they didn't lose any food or receive any damage. I know of a couple of these families. "

    " To Disabled:
I've seen people do this and when I see them getting out of their cars I look at their license plates and look to see if there are any handicap indicators on their vehicles. If I don't see any I stop and give them a long hard stare! It's sad but there are plenty of arrogant people who think they are entitled to these spaces! It's the entitlement syndrome that permeates our society! "
