All year long it’s been a mantra she has followed and Monday all those high expectations paid off as No. 4 seed Catholic High advanced to the State Farm/Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV state volleyball tournament with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 sweep of No. 13 seed Iota High.
“I think the girls came out and played really hard,” said Harris. “Iota came out and played really hard too. They had a good defensive team. We just came out on top in the end and worked really hard for it.”

The Lady Panther will play the winner of today’s game between Berwick and Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans Thursday, but the time of the game has yet to be determined.
The Berwick-ASH game was supposed to be played Monday but was delayed because of the threat of Tropical Storm Ida to the New Orleans area. It was one of several games involving New Orleans-area schools that were delayed.
Nothing delayed Catholic High’s run through Iota Monday as the Lady Panthers took early leads and finished each game strong in sweeping the Lady Bulldogs (20-9).
“I think a lot of it has to do with practice and how we meet our standards,” said Harris. “We always put the team in game-like situations where we are behind and we have to pick ourselves up and work for points.
“That has really helped in our games.”
The first game of the match was typical of what happened in the other two. CHS ran out to a 7-2 lead to start and Iota rallied back to within 2 points on two different occasions, then tied the game at 19-19, but Catholic High used a late run to subdue the Lady Bulldogs 25-22.
The only difference in the second game was that Iota jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before Catholic High rallied to tie the game and again pulled away late for the win.
“I thought we played well,” said Iota coach Katherine Horton. “Catholic High is a really good team. I wish the ‘L’ was a ‘W’ but that’s it. I don’t know what else to say.”
Taylor Lahasky and Marie Hoag each had five kills for Catholic High. Mary Frances Hoag also had five kills and an ace; Kirsten Kidder added two kills, Kristin Ball had six digs, Abby Henagan had 14 digs and two aces; Casey Breaux had four digs and two aces and Sydney Lahasky had 26 assists and four digs.
Now the Lady Panthers turn their attention towards the state tournament starting Thursday.
“We have a great bunch of girls,” said Harris. “They work hard, do what we ask and we can’t ask for anything else. All we can do is keep working hard, keep working on our standards and keep everything going.”
ESA 3, Delcambre 0
CADE ” The ESA Lady Falcons used strong first and third games and survived a second game rally by Delcambre to eliminate the Lady Panthers from the Division V playoffs 25-4, 25-23, 25-9 Monday to advance to the state volleyball tournament.
Led by eight kills from Kathryn Cyrus and six from Tiffany Jenkins, the top-seeded Lady Falcons advanced to a match against No. 9 seed Ascension Catholic, which beat White Castle 25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 25-19, Thursday in the quarterfinals.
“The thing I wanted my girls to focus on is to take one game at a time. That we need to play our game and be aggressive,” said ESA coach Becky Madden, whose team improved to 28-11 with the win. “I felt that in games one and three we definitely had the momentum and took control.
“Game two, I think that we relaxed and when you relax the other team has a chance to regain the momentum. Delcambre gained the momentum and we tightened up.”
Delcambre rallied in the second game to tie the score at 23-23 but according to Madden, ESA’s seniors pulled the game out for the Lady Falcons.
“My seniors pulled ahead and showed some leadership.”
For 17th seed DHS, which ended the season 16-20, it was a disappointing way to go out.
“First game wasn’t good,” said Delcambre coach Lisa Richard. “I think that we let the name ESA get to us. I told them I don’t care who you play, you play hard and don’t give up.
“We played the second game and lost by 2 and in the third game ESA stepped it up we didn’t play as well.”
Richard said that if she had to get beat she wanted to get beat by the No. 1 team in the state and that’s what happened.
Olivia Bramlet had four kills for ESA. Sarah Guenard added three kills and four aces and Merritt Longman had two kills and two assists.
Delcambre was led by Hacie Stelly with three kills and two blocks. Jenny Bouillion had four kills and six assists, Alex Trahan had two kills, Maci Terrebonne had six digs, Alli Dunbar had three kills and a dig, Emily Leblanc had five digs and eight assists, Alexa Grossie had two aces and a kill and Shana Vincent had three kills and two blocks.
