More than 300 pounds of marijuana were seized and two suspects were in custody today as the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office worked to complete an ongoing undercover narcotics operation.

Agents from the Iberia Parish Bureau of Investigation made the bust at 631 Mississipppi St. with sheriff’s deputies and narcotics agents.

“We’ve been working on this for a while,” said Sheriff Louis Ackal. “More arrests and search warrants are expected today.”

Lt. Robert Green gathers evidence at 631 Mississippi St. in New Iberia where the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office seized more than 300 pounds of marijuana this morning. An ongoing investigation led to two arrests. Sheriff Louis Ackal did not yet release the names of the man and woman arrested in connection with the seized drugs, as deputies were still searching other homes in the neighborhood about 1 p.m. today. - Inness Asher / The Daily Iberian

Both suspects, a man and a woman, remain unidentified at this time. Ackal said that after a warrant was served the woman became belligerent and was temporarily held in custody in a police car. The man was being held in the residence while the evidence was gathered and cataloged by Evidence Custodian Lt. Robert Green.

The section of Mississippi Street from Margaret to Hopkins streets were blocked off by police. Vehicles attempting to enter the area were denied entry and those attempting to leave were stopped by deputies.

“This is a substation for this area,” Ackal said. “This is like a weekly distribution for this area and more.”

Ackal said the Drug Enforcement Administration had been notified, as the marijuana is suspected to have come from out of state.

“We called the DEA to try to track back,” Ackal said. He said he and his deputies work closely with the DEA, the Federal Bureau of Investigation task force, the U.S. Marshal Service and U.S. Customs, with agents assigned to each organization.

Following the Laws of God may possibly help to save your soul. Following man made laws may possibly help to save your life, or the life of someone else here on Earth.

Marijuana is illegal here. When you get caught breaking man made laws, you might go to jail. If you get caught, and you go to court, I would LOVE to hear you present your argument to the judge!!! "

    " To: Idiots All

You stated in your post that "long time/old time pot smoker's don't really buy that mass market pot". Sounds like maybe you grow your own.

If the long time/old time pot smoker's weren't buying the mass market pot, it must have been going into the hands of children and young people, right? So then "C" must have been right to make the statement that the 300 lbs. of pot confiscated by the IPSO will never go into the hands of CHILDREN.

    Good Job IPSO ! ! ! "

" Hardly gonna MAKE A DIFFERENCE . The price on the streets is probably not even gonna rise. They are buying and selling right now . Long time/old time pot smokers don't really buy that mass market pot .Y'all complaining about health care Ha! This is really money wasted, probably more than the pot is worth over the long run . Now you gotta lock em up at taxpayers expense for probably almost a million dollars over the length of their sentence . Seems like you can support a lot of cops and D. A.'s for many years, idiots all!
