As a board member then, I remember the back and forth at meetings on the prospects for the event, borrowed from a similar event in Morgan City. As we head into the seventh annual Brudley’s Wild Game, Seafood and Jambayala Cook-off, it is comforting to know the community at the same time has supported the cause and smacked its lips over some delicious food at the same time.
It makes you proud to know there are civic leaders such as those who continue the tradition of caring in the Boys and Girls Club, and people like your relatives and neighbors who care enough to enrich youths’ lives in and around New Iberia.

This year’s organizers hope to raise more than last year when the cookoff took in $36,000. The goal is $40,000, said Janet Courville, president of the Iberia board of managers for the Boys and Girls Club.
The inaugural cookoff seven years ago made $12,000.
“Every year it’s grown a little bit,” Courville said in an understatement.
And it has a new name, unfortunately and tragically. After Brudley Kibodeaux, one of the club’s most active supporters, and his wife, Nancy, were killed in a car wreck two years ago, organizers renamed the event to honor Kibodeaux.
What do patrons get for the bucks? They can sample wild game, seafood and jambalaya entries from at least 17 cooking teams that were registered as of Monday.
Votes from the eaters will be tallied to determine the winners in five cookoff categories. Acadiana Hydraulics/Krewe of Lou, a team of serious cooks, won four of five categories last year.
Cookoff attendees also can listen to the sound of musical groups Corey Ledet and his Zydeco Band, The Bad Boys and T&X Production.
Susan Fisher, special events coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, said money raised at this fun fundraiser stays in the community for health and life skills, arts direction and sports, fitness and recreational opportunities for boys and girls ages 6-18.
Tickets are available from board members as well as at Little River Inn, ManPower, Gulotta’s, Teche Federal Bank and the office of the 16th Judicial District.
Enjoy.

Lots of great kids have benefited from the Iberia Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana and with the continued community support, it will serve many more in years to come.
As the first director of the Club in 1997, I am glad that this event is continuing to help the Club with the necessary funding so the Club can realy be THE Positive Place for Kids! "
