Federal workers get raise

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 2:09 PM CST

I understand that our president recently approved a 2% pay raise for all federal employees at about the same time as the social security administration announced that those on social security will not receive a cost of living increase in 2010.

I suppose seniors can do their share to help our struggling economy, especially those who are in the poor house or knocking on the door to get in the poor house.  But a whole bunch of federal employees are being paid a 6 digit income so 2%, while not sounding very significant, could well amount to hundreds of dollars each month.  And let's not forget that years ago our elite congress approved an annual pay raise for themselves and all members of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the government.

Wow!  There's something wrong with this picture!  Even if the president gets a bill passed to give social security recipients a one time "bail out" of $250.00, there is still something wrong in Washington.

Some changes have already happened in Virginia and New Jersey and it is not the changes the democratic controlled congress and white house was expecting.  Well, I think they had better brace for some additional changes next year.

" Outraged, I totally agree with you. The $250.00 will not do anything for the poor people on social security. He is trying to paint a pretty picture for himself. He was elected by the people who refused to look beyond the color of his skin and the young voters that don't understand politics. There wouldn't be a problem with his skin if his brain had the capability. Since the young voter have shown such irresponsibility I think the voting age should be raised to 30 years old. "

" The raise for federal workers is obscene. In addition to raises, they get gold-plated benefits, lots of days off, and unmatched job security. A clerk with a high-schol edication and one year of general experience starts at over $30K in the DC area.

Write your congressperson! The money being spent on those raises could fund tens of thousands of NEW jobs. "

" If the Healtcare bill is good enough for the general public then its good enough for congress-house-senate and the president. Especially since we, the american people, are paying for it. I want to have a say in this healthcare voting, since it is gonna affect me personaly. The healthcare bill they are promoting is not good enough for the members of congress, etc, Its not good enough for me, and it shouldn't be good enough for you either! And as far as their pay raises, that's a bunch of marlarky--If they really wanted to bring down the deficit of America theywouldtakeapaycut.TheproblemsinAmericawouldbe:::TOOMUCHGOV"T. "

    " Obama is ruining America!!!
Postmen do not deserve 6-figure salaries to deliver my junk mail. Pretty soon every liberal job like Postmen will pay over $100-grand/yr.
Teachers make too much for the little bit of work they do every day. I say pay them a flat rate of $40/day with no benefits!!! "

" This $250 bone Obama is throwing to seniors is just intended to FOOL seniors into believing Obama CARES about them while he passes his Health Care bill that will leave them to die waiting for life extending treatments they would have gotten before his bill was passed!!! "
