Georgie Mae Narcise, also known to many as “Mama,” was a native of New Iberia. She was born on Oct. 31, 1924, to the late Viola Johnson and George Turpo. Georgie was a baptized at an early age and was a lifelong member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

In her earlier years, Georgie was quite active in the political scene.  She served as an aide to the late Governor Elgraso in Connecticut for Rights of Abused Kids, she was a member of the NAACP and a delegate of Norwalk, CT Black Democratic Caucus. Georgia also worked with physically challenged children and received numerous awards for her service.  Her family was the center of her life and it was easily displayed in her interaction with them and friends.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009,  Georgie was called to her place of rest after a lengthy illness. She now joins in glory her husband, Wilson Narcise Sr.; her son Wilson Narcise Jr.; and her parents, Viola Johnson and George Turpo.

To carry on her legacy of love and precious memories are her daughter, Cynthia Thaddeus Nelson of Norwalk, Conn.; six grandchildren Christian Nelson of Connecticut, Rhonda Narcise of Fort Worth, Texas; Minnette Nelson of New Iberia and Jamelah Narcise of Norwalk, Conn.; three grandchildren Latin and Taylor Boutte of New Iberia and Bryce J.
