New Iberia bank robbed of thousands A woman robbed the Capital One Bank on Admiral Doyle Drive in New Iberia of thousands of dollars shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, said Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Wendell Raborn. The woman was described as being black, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall with a medium build, Raborn said. She was wearing a black coat and green shirt. Raborn said she walked into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding $6,000 and instructing the teller not to “scream or call police or I’ll kill you.” She did not appear to have a weapon. Raborn said authorities believe the suspect fled on foot. When another teller saw the woman walking out of the bank holding the money that was not in a bag, that teller became suspicious and called the Sheriff’s Office. The bank was closed this afternoon and employees evacuated. It was not immediately known whether any customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery. |
