NISH (7-2, 1-2) is battling for playoff positioning, ranked 28th in the latest unofficial power rankings from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
A win guarantees the Jackets a spot in the playoffs, possibly as high as 19th in power rankings according the NISH coach Rick Hutson. A loss wouldn’t necessarily hurt the Jackets unless several other major week 10 upsets happen, in which case NISH might be on the bubble.
Westgate High (5-4, 2-2) drew a district bye this week and coach Brian Fine could not find an opponent to schedule a non-district game, so the next game for the Tigers (23rd in the power rankings) will be in the first round of the playoffs next week.
Gueydan at Delcambre
The District 7-A title is on the line Friday night at DHS. The Panthers (6-3, 3-1) are tied with Central Catholic (6-3, 3-1) for second place, one game behind Gueydan (8-1, 4-0).
A Delcambre win would probably force a three-way tie for the district title as Central Catholic plays Ascension Episcopal tonight. It is also expected to be a battle of the backs as Delcambre’s Jorey Renard (1,042 yards, 17 touchdowns) goes head to head with Gueydan’s Davante Bourque (1,441 yards, 24 touchdowns).
North Vermilion at Erath
The Bobcats (3-6, 0-4) close out their first season under coach Destin Dieterich by playing host to the Patriots (6-3, 2-2). Erath, 45th in the latest power rankings, cannot make the playoffs this year and is looking to close out the regular season with its first district win.
North Vermilion (19th) will look to jump into the top 16 for a first round home playoff game.
St. Martinville at Northside
The Vikings (7-2, 5-0) can clinch the District 6-4A title outright this week with a win over St. Martinville (1-8, 1-4).
SMSH closes out the regular season and get ready for the start of basketball.
