Yolande ‘Grannie’ B. Comeaux

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Walter B. Comeaux, 92, the former Yolande Broussard, at 11a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Blaine Clement officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service time.

A native of Parks and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Comeaux died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 2:32 p.m. at her residence in New Iberia. “Grannie” cooked for her family and many friends for 80 years touching the lives of many New Iberia residents. She was past president of the Navy Mothers Club and taught religion for several years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Her passion was saying the Rosary. She enjoyed listening to country music and was a big Atlanta Braves fan. Her proudest accomplishment was getting her G.E.D. at age 60. Her family was the most important thing in her life.

The family would like to thank her caretakers Dinah, Christina, Rosemary, Shavone, Connie, Vivian and a host of family members and also AAA hospice, especially Tina, Diane and Brenda for all their loving care.

Survivors include her children Ray J. Comeaux of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Gerald J., Charles C. and Barry P. Comeaux, Lou Ann C. Dugas and Katie C. Morel, all of New Iberia; special family friends Louis A. Gaspard Sr. and Joseph Moreaux, both of New Iberia; 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Walter B. Comeaux; parents, Edward and Clementine Ducrest Broussard; children Donald A. Comeaux, Mildred G. Comeaux, Elaine C. Segura and Gloria A. Comeaux; a grandson Christopher Segura; brothers Wade, Clarence, Edwin “Coe,” Alden Broussard and Robert “Bobby” Broussard; and two sisters Therese Ann “Terry” Broussard and Jane B. “Nan” Broussard.

Pallbearers were her children Gerald J., Charles C., Ray J. and Barry P. Comeaux, Lou Ann C. Dugas and Katie C. Morel.
