Five Teche Area volleyball teams will continue their seasons this week as the postseason matchups were announced Monday by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

New Iberia Senior High, Westgate, Catholic High, Delcambre and ESA all received bids to the playoffs.

In Division I, NISH (22-15) drew the No. 16 seed and will travel to Houma to take on No. 17 H.L. Bourgeois (18-14) Wednesday at 5 p.m.

If the Lady Jackets win, their second round opponent will be No. 1 seed St. Joseph’s Academy (42-1) of Baton Rouge.

“We got a good seed and we want to play St. Joseph’s again,” said NISH coach Ron Hebert. “They beat us in the second round last year and we want another chance at them.”

Hebert said that the reason the higher seed (NISH) travels to the lower seed (Bourgeois) is that Bourgeois was second in district and NISH finished fourth so the second-place district team gets the home game.

“I thought that we’d be a lower seed than we were,” said Hebert. “But when you look at the district we’re in, six of the seven teams got into the playoffs. That shows how strong the district was this year.”

Hebert also said that he’s pleased NISH is playing Bourgeois in the first round.

“We go to their team camp every year so we’re familiar with the gym,” said Hebert. “I’m glad we’re playing them.”

Westgate (14-16) drew the No. 21 seed in Division II and will travel to No. 12 Morgan City (18-21). Game time for the first round game hadn’t been determined as of press time.

If the Lady Tigers win, they will play district rival and No. 5 seed Breaux Bridge (20-8) in the second round.

The Catholic High Lady Panthers, who were unofficially ranked at No. 5 in the Oct. 12 rankings, finished the season strong and drew the No. 4 seed in the Division IV playoffs.

As a top eight seed, CHS (26-11) drew a first round bye and will play the winner of the contest between No. 13 Iota (19-8) and No. 20 Fisher (13-11) in the second round in a game that must be played by Monday.

If CHS advances out of the second round and into the quarterfinals, which will be played at the state volleyball tournament at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner starting Nov. 12, they face a potential game with No. 5 seed Academy of the Sacred Heart (14-19) from New Orleans.

In Division V, Delcambre (14-19) drew the No. 17 seed and will travel to No. 16 seed Hosanna Christian (15-11) in a game that will be played at 6 p.m. Thursday.

ESA (28-10) drew the No. 1 overall seed in Division V and drew a first round bye. The Lady Falcons second round game will be against the winner of Delcambre and Hosanna Christian.

The second round game must be played by Monday.
