Spell Check

I am not Webster's Dictionary, nor do I pretend to never make mistakes, but why is it that when some writers want to rant and rave, make smart remarks, replies, and comments or even post initial topics, there are so many words misspelled or no puncuation to let you know where the sentence ends and another begins? I am confused. I enjoy reading the forums and ''hearing'' what people have to say, but it doesn't take much effort to add a period or take that extra 'n' out of 'brinnging'. I know it is a minor thing, sometimes, but you'd be surprised how many people either really write like that. I use to work in a sales office and adults would come in to get a service and would not be able to read or write. Just a thought...

    " Iberian,

If you must know, first of all I prefer Kmart over Walmart. Secondly, I am very much educated. I guess it is not likely for someone like me to have a AA, AS and a MS right. Of course not. How dare them afford an education to me. Well, thanks for the insight. I do not act like a savage and as an educator I believe being able to spell right and speak right is only proper. However, I don't tend to frown upon those who can't or wishes not to. "

" What are you? A bunch of librarians and undersexed English teachers? I've seen more colorful and creative conversation on a beekeepers forum from Wichita, KS. If you're so put off with spelling and grammatical errors, you're obviously in the wrong place. There is nothing remotely interesting about talking to someone who is more interested in correcting your spelling and grammatical errors than the content of our arguement or point. If it pleases you, you may embrace with fortuitous vigor my follically adorned posterior, etc., etc. "

" Are you serious? It is not "used to" it is "use to" just how I typed it. People speak so bad that "used to" is how it's said, but not right. D**n...used means old, second hand, not new. Say it slowly and see how dumb that sounds. Or maybe it sounds right to you. WOW. "

" To OMG: Appearing ignorant in public is apparently okay with most people in New Iberia. I choose to act in a civil manner. Part of civility is proper use of language. You and the rest of the unwashed masses can go hang out at Walmart and behave like savages if you so choose. Maybe "everything going on in the world" (your words) would be less tragic if people would go back to basic civility. "

" Instead of seeing the importance of education in my comment, you criticize. So, D Hertz, "annal" is spelled incorrectly. If you where not allowed to type the corredt spelling, an*l would have been sufficient, but then again, maybe yours has two n's. And Too funny, in reference to your comment, please add a comma after puncuation in the sentence that starts with "Where". That word starts a prepositional phrase, which requires a comma at the end of it...duh!!! "

" How can the people of Iberia Parish be expected to use the English language correctly when those in charge of their education don't know how to read, speak, and write? The president of the school board talks like a buffoon (he doesn't ask questions--he "axes" questions), and thinks it is not important. Many so-called educated members of the town elite speak like illiterate fools. "

Iberian wrote on Nov 4, 2009 7:26 AM:

" I agree with the original poster. Anyone who is too ignorant to properly use his or her own native language is probably too ignorant to have their opinion taken seriously. They didn't pay enough attention in grades one through four to learn how to read and write, so they probably didn't learn the skills needed to make reasonable assumptions about complex issues. Just give their posts the attention they warrant, which is none. "

" I consider grammar and speaking skills important, though that is only my opinion. When people write with poor grammar, it diminishes the strength of the argument, though it probably shouldn't. Think of the number of people with good ideas and sound judgment who could never get elected to office because they aren't photogenic enough. In this media-driven world, the packaging is just as important as the package. Wanting good grammar is not "annal." (We cannot type the real word for the DI software blocks it.) It's just a sign of wanting an improvement in life. "

    D. Hertz wrote on Nov 3, 2009 7:20 PM:

" I think it would be considered annal. I have more important things to do than to make sure people like you are not put out by the words I use. Get a life. "

Too funny... wrote on Nov 3, 2009 7:18 PM:

" When people like you write a post about grammar and punctuation you should make sure you don't get anything wrong because then when you spell a word wrong as you just did in this post you look like a fool. Try adding a " T " in punctuation next time you try to complain about spelling ! "

Mensan wrote on Nov 3, 2009 6:17 PM:

" I appreciate bad grammar because it throws into sharp relief those with a measure of mental agility. When someone writes with impeccable grammar, I may not agree with them but am at least obliged to pay attention. "
