OK, Saints’ fans, tell the truth. When the Saints were down 24-3 just before the half, you thought it was just not going to be our day and the Saints’ win streak was over?

Of course it wasn’t over. Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees talked Coach Sean Payton into going for a touchdown instead of a field goal right before the half, and made it, so the Saints’ got a bit of momentum going to the half at 24-10.

And that positive momentum carried forward in the second half as the Saints eventually moved ahead and then won the game with a comfortable lead, 46-34.

Everywhere I went Monday, people were talking about the Saints’ comeback victory, how they scored 36 points in the second half, how we saw so many big plays from so many on the team.

I thought it was pretty apt when I heard one Saints fan suggest maybe this year is “next year” for the Saints, that after having so many dismal seasons, so many disappointing losses, and talking so many years about how “next year” would be the one when the Saints got things on track, perhaps this year is the “next year” we’ve been waiting for.

The comeback win over the Dolphins keeps the Saints’ win-streak alive at 6-0, one of just three undefeated teams in the NFL, along with the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. This is rarified air for Saints fans, with the team and its performances at such a high level.

Another Saints fan I heard suggested some of the bad breaks that used to seem to always go against the Saints seem to be going our way this year.

There’s still a lot of season left to be played, so we can’t know for sure that this year is THE year for the Saints, but it is sure is a lot more fun being a Saints fan these days than it was lots of times in the past.

Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Certainly none of the six teams played thus far.

Coming back to win after being down 24-3 is indeed spectacular, but consider how in a playoff game in 1993, the Buffalo Bills were down to the then Houston Oilers, 35-3, yet managed to tie the score in regulation and then win by a field goal in overtime to take a 38-35 win, said to be the greatest comeback ever in NFL history.

I found several references to this game on the Web.

You think people doubted the Saints could do it Sunday? Consider the Bills were down by an even wider margin, and their starting quarterback was hurt, so the comeback was led by backup Frank Reich, not longtime star, Jim Kelly.

I also found an item about Michigan State coming back to win against Northwestern, in college football, back in 2006.

Michigan State was down 32-3 with 9 minutes and 54 seconds to go in the third quarter, yet rallied to win 41-38.

You hear it all the time. It ain’t over, till it’s over.

We had some great weather this past weekend, low humidity and mild temperatures. Saturday and especially Sunday were great for doing anything outdoors.

After some of the hot, sticky days we get in July and August, we deserve some nice weather. It was great.
