Three Thursday games set

Thursday night football this week sees one Teche Area school battling for its playoff life, another school battling for a district lead and a third school hoping to pick up its first win and a district win to get back into the race for a district title as all things district start to dominate football as week seven gets underway.

New Orleans Home School at Highland Baptist

The Highland Baptist Bears play host to New Orleans Home School (0-8) for homecoming Thursday at New Iberia Senior High.

The Bears, 2-6 in Louisiana Christian School Athletic Associaton play, are battling Natchitoches Christian for the final spot in the LCSAA playoffs that begin in two weeks.

Natchitoches Christian (3-5) beat New Orleans 36-0 last week to move one game up on HBCS with two games left in the season. A Highland win coupled with a Natchitoches Christian loss would put the two teams tied for fourth place with one game left.

Highland beat New Orleans 30-20 when the two teams met on Sept. 10.

Delcambre at Central Catholic

The Delcambre Panthers (4-2, 1-0 District 7-A) travel to Morgan City Thursday to battle Central Catholic (4-2, 1-0) with first place in district on the line.

DHS, unofficially 29th in the LHSAA power rankings, and Central Catholic, unofficially 15th, both had impressive district wins last week. Delcambre beat Hanson 32-7 while CC beat Vermilion Catholic 27-23.

Delcambre’s Jorey Renard (828 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns) leads the Panthers with an average of 138 yards rushing per game.

West St. Mary at Berwick

The Wolfpack (0-5, 0-1 District 6-3A) is still looking for its first win of the year while Berwick (2-4, 0-1) is looking to bounce back from last week’s 14-7 loss to Franklin in its district opener.

WSM dropped a 55-7 decision to E.D. White in its district opener last week.
