Blessing Pets?

I've been seeing some stuff about people having their pets blessed by catholic priests.  What's up with that?  If someone wants to pray for their pet (or for themselves or for anyone else), why don't they just pray for them?  There is, as far as I can tell from reading Scripture, any intermediary needed to ask God for assistance.  And sprinkling water on a person or animal or an inanimate object does not "bless" that person, animal, or object.

I'm just wondering, where do you guys come up with this stuff?  If you want something (i.e. a blessing) from God, why don't you ask Him?

" The USA is a free country. We can choose our faith, worship in any church of our choice and belong to the religion of our choice. All you people who choose not to be Catholic, then quite frankly, it is none of your business what practicing Catholics do or don't do. Go focus on yourself instead of bashing people for allowing their children to take pride in their pets. You need to mind your own business. With all the lives being lost in war every day, why don't you spend your time praying for peace. "

So lets get your priest, who is probably a closet homosexual " not that I have anything against gay people", to telepathically speak to the Skyman so that he can make normal water into super magic water. It's like Harry Potter for people who view the world through bronze age eyes. NEWSFLASH...The world is round and it revolves around the sun. Germs cause diseases, not demons.....Hello, it's called science!!!!! "

You believe only what your so called “preacher” spouts. Ask him to show you his “mail order” certificate. I recall meeting someone from the “Bible belt” of Mississippi. He told me that the reason Catholic priests wore the traditional four-corner hats was to cover up their horns. Boy, there’s so much ignorance in this world. "

I sincerely fell sorry for Anti-Catholics who are missing out of the beauty and authenticity of the Catholic Church. "

" The Holy Bible, was developed by the Catholic Church in the first place. How can you use a Catholic Book to oppose the Church? Jesus said “upon this rock”. Peter means "rock" (petros). Study translations. Jesus also told Peter, “Whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven. Whatever you loose on earth, will be loosed in Heaven. It's in all Bibles, even the King James. St. Peter and the Apostles developed the order of succession (see Acts). Therefore, all the Catholic Popes and Bishops throughout history are their successors. "

" Martin Luther's great crime, in the eyes of the so-called "church" was to provide Bibles to anyone who wanted one. He wanted to open Christianity to the masses, which angered the church leaders in Rome, who slaughtered thousands in order to keep the church's power in their hands. Maybe "To Intrigued" should read history, instead of relying on your so-called leaders to miseducate you. "

" Where in the Holy Bible does it say that Jesus started the catholic church??? He told Peter "Upon this rock I will build my church." The Rock is Jesus Himself. Why do you think that Jesus came down and went through an agonizing death on the cross. The bible also says NOT TO PRAY TO THE DEAD. It also says NOT TO SAY REPETITIOUS PRAYERS. Funny how the catholic church follows the WORD OF GOD. Everyone thinks that they are sure their's is the right one. A relationship with the Lord is better than any religion. "

" You may not be an athiest, but you are certainly not a Christian. If you were you would be in the Church that Jesus established over 2000 years ago, not one which was started but protesters (Protestents) in the middle ages, who decided to do what they wanted, instead of what Christ established. Luther and Calvin ripped chapters out of the Bible. Henry IV wanted a devorce because he couldn't chop off the head of another wife, so he started his own church. Study Church History and the origins of the Protestant churchs before you go spouting your mistruths. "

" No, I'm not an athiest. I am a Christian. As such, I follow the scriptures. I pray for my pets. I pray for other people. I pray for myself. I follow God's commands to the best of my ability, but I know that is not enough for me to get into Heaven. I also know that some guy in a fancy dress "blessing" my pets (or my car or my house or my statues) is no more effective than me asking God directly to bless me and mine. "

What's the blessing of the pets to you? All religions have their traditions. If I thought you were sincere, I'd address the history and rationale behind this charming practice. But, since I think you're not, I'll just say that it doesn't matter what you think. You don't need to worry about the "stuff" we come up with. "
