Quarterback Peyton Durke threw two touchdown passes and Michael Campbell scored twice on the ground as the Lions improved to 5-2 overall, with a one-half game lead over Acadiana Home School for second place.
Highland Baptist fell to 2-5 in its inaugural season, one-half game behind Natchitoches Christian for the fourth and final spot to qualify for the playoffs, with three games left in the regular season.

“In a game like this, it really comes down to not focusing on the scoreboard and start focusing on the positive things,” said HBCS coach Artie Liuzza. “The good thing about tonight is that when we had some guys go down, unfortunately on injuries, we had some really young guys step in and make some plays in a varsity football game.
“That’s going to pay off for us in the long run.”
Harvest Time’s offense got started early.
On the second play of the game, Davis took off around the right side and 57 yards later was in the end zone.
Davis also had a hand in the second score, intercepting Zach Fleming’s pass on the Bears’ first possession.
Eight plays later, Davis has his second touchdown of the night on a 15-yard run as HTCS increased the lead to 14-0 after the two-point conversion.
Davis’s third score came on a 45-yard run after the Lions’ defense forced a Highland punt and HTCS led 22-0.
The Lions added a fourth touchdown at the end of the first quarter and the rout was on.
“Highland put up a great fight and are going to be a great team in the future,” said Harvest Time coach Steve Delino. “They’re young. We started out young and are finally starting to see some success.
“We’re not where we want to be but we’re not where we used to be. We play hard-nosed defense and try to move the ball.”
While the Lions were moving the ball on offense, the defense put the clamps on the Bears.
In the first half alone, Harvest Time forced three Highland punts, picked off a pass and forced an incomplete pass on fourth down to stop one HBCS drive. Highland managed only 15 yards of offense and one first down in the first half.
“All we can do is keep pushing forward,” said Liuzza. “We’re going to find the positive, try to correct the negatives and one day it’s all going to pay off.”
Harvest TIme led 38-0 at halftime and scored three more times in the second half. The Lions ran up 432 yards of offense and held Highland to 100 total yards.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Bears next week. Highland Baptist travels to face Breaux Bridge Christian, which won the first game between the teams this year, 61-6.
“It’s going to be a tough battle and we’re going to have to strap it on and go,” said Liuzza. “We can’t stop, we just have to keep going.”
