Behavior at Parade

My son volunteered to march with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Life Teen group at Sunday's Queen Parade. It was a small contingent of teens and youth leaders that played Christian music and took turns carrying a wooden cross that had been signed by all the teens. What's disturbing is the majority of paradegoers reacted by booing them and accusing them of "ruining the party"! They were told to "turn the cross upside down" (a sign of devil worship) and "go home". The warmest reception was from an African American church group who cheered them (the teens were mostly caucasian). I admire the courage of these teens to live their faith in public, but am embarrased by the behavior of drunk adults who jeered them. Is this really what this world has become? If so, God help us all......

" Saw this post a little late, but, I am also a mother of one of the marching teens. I am extremely proud of my son for the kind, compassionate person he is. In my opinion, we should admire these kids for their courage.

Thank you, "group leader" for all you do for them. You are a fantastic role model. "

" Good for you. I am proud of anyone who stands up for Christ. The problem with the United States right now is because americans have taken God out of everything in our country by a few and it's Christians that is to be blamed. We allow them to do it. Shame on us! Now we see our country crumbling before our eyes. "

christian they come in all shape, size and color. It never seem to amaze me what I hear come out of christian folks mouth and they call god name in vain.
Practice what you preach... Stop using reglion as a crutch.... "

" I was glad to have the chance to show the strong faith of our youth in the parade. It was not a time to throw peoples actions in their faces, but a time to invite those who do choose to follow a moral teaching. I do ask the question to those who were bothered seeing the youth standing for some sign of truth, why does it hurt you so? May be you should come and join us; we welcome you and challenge you to. I am very proud of our teens and will do it again. "

I don't confess to being a christian I just strive everyday to be a better person and treat others how I want to be treated and not judge others. Show Love, Compassion and Respect. "

Rude, crude, and out of control only begins to describe this bunch of rejects from other police departments. God better be with you in your time of need because they won't. "

    " Jesus,

First of all I'm appalled you'd have the nerve to use that as your "name". None of these youth were "shoving" anything in anybody's face. And oppresive thought and hatred are the furthest things from these teens minds. These are young people that despite being exposed to the evils and temptations of the world on a daily basis, choose to accept Christ as their leader and role model. They embrace peolpe of all religions, races, etc. Can you say you do the same? Sounds like you're the one full of hatred and bigotry! "

" We live in a Godless liberal time surrounded by deviance and disgusting behavior. No one says don't have a good time. Respect for ones self and others has been trashed. I blame parents putting wants before needs and not properly training their kids.

Oh and adults, grow up. You look stupid standing out there drinking and acting like you're twenty again. "

" I really feel sorry for the poster who calls himself "Jesus". I have lived all over this country and I have yet to have religion shoved in my face. I've never felt hated by Christians, and I have never had my thought oppressed by them. The only hatred, oppression, and shoving I have encountered has come from those who reject the decency toward others that the Christian church teaches. You will be in my prayers. If you call that hatred or oppression, then so be it. "

Pity them wrote on Sep 30, 2009 11:40 AM:

" How dare you callout the classless masses of New Iberia. Don't you know all those people are better, smarter, wealthier, and more religious than anyone else on the planet? Don't you know that they're entitled to be cocky, arrogant, and rude? Don't you know that their opinions are profoundly more important than yours? Don't you know that they could care less about what you think?

Pity these small minded fools. Their affliction is common in Acadiana. They don't even realize how stupid they are...that's why they stay in herds. It makes them feel safe and hides their insecurities. "

" To concerned parent, Welcome to the real world. This festival is not about thanking God for his blessing's on the community, it's about the money and alcohol. I said in previous post that they can't even have a childrens parade without booze, at 10 O'clock in the morning. You would think that for one day children wouldn't have to be subjected to this type of behavior. But it doesn't seem possbile in this society!! Thank your son and his friends, from those of us who care. GOD BLESS!! "

" Just this morning on the news a group of cheerleaders were banned from using a poster with these words: "And surely I am with you always,to the end of the age.Matthew28:20"! One person complained to the school and the administration made a decision to ban the poster!!!
One person can deny the majority our right to express our religious beliefs!!!
There is no such thing as separation of church and state!!! It says you can't establish a state religion!!! "

" Having moved to New Iberia just over four years ago, I was at first charmed by the beauty of the tree-lined streets and grand homes on Main St. Then I attended a parade--boy, was that an eye-opener! The people of this community are rude, crude, and out of control. I know that at least one of you is going to tell me to leave if I don't like it, but I choose instead to stay as an example of Christ's goodness. God knows this community could use it. "

" Like it or not, the cross has become a symbol of oppressive thought in America, and people are tired of having it shoved in their faces. When Christians learn to stop hating others, and stop trying to drag the country back to the Dark Ages, you'll get a nicer reception.

I don't know if the boys in the parade are those kinds of Christians. I hope not. I saw them, and didn't boo, but I wished they weren't there. "

" Doesn't surprise me. Partying is more important to them than Christ, thats how they think. Look at Mardi Gras, you can drink & sin & whatever, then the next day, get your ashes & be good for the next seven weeks. I don't think this is right & I am Catholic. You either live for God or you don't. One day we all will have to anwer to God. And God help us all. "
