Kids allege kidnap attempt

Iberia Parish authorities are investigating an attempted kidnapping of two young boys who were riding their bicycles late Sunday in New Iberia.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said an unidentified man tried to lure the 10 and 11 year olds to a red SUV by offering them candy and telling them to “Come see.”

The vehicle reportedly stopped next to the boys around 9 p.m. in the 2000 block of Palmland Boulevard. The suspect, described as a white man wearing a light blue shirt and a short cut beard, reportedly stepped out of the passenger side of the vehicle and began yelling at the boys.

The boys told authorities they became frightened and drove their bicycles into a nearby sugar cane field.

The Sheriff’s Office said at least three other men were in the vehicle, but the boys could not describe their appearances because the windows were tinted.

Anyone with information about the alleged attempted kidnapping is asked to contact authorities at 369-3714.
