The Highland Baptist Bears open the area’s football weekend Thursday with a home game against Acadiana Home School at 7 p.m. at New Iberia Senior High.

The Bears, 2-2 overall, are tied for third place in league play with Harvest Time Christian after four weeks of the Louisiana Christian School Athletic Association season.

Breaux Bridge Christian leads the league with a perfect 4-0 mark and Acadiana Home School is in second place with a 3-1 record.

Last week, the Bears got 196 yards and three touchdowns rushing and 109 yards and a touchdown passing from junior quarterback Zach Fleming in beating the New Orleans Home School Saints 30-20, while Acadiana Home School crushed Natchitoches Christian 54-8.

A win against Acadiana Home School would move the Bears into a second place tie in the league at the halfway mark of the season. A loss would drop the Bears into fourth place in the league with five games left.

The top four teams in the league make the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
