Where Did We Go Wrong

Today is a good day to talk about America, or lets just put it simple as I can, Lets talk about where I live , New Iberia, louisiana. When I was growning as a kid up on lumbard street, anderson street, hopkins street, and the surrounding areas, times has changed since then. I'm in my late 30's and I can tell you that I wasn't the perfect child, I made misstakes and I was discipline for them, and when I got older as a man I made misstakes and I was discipline for them an all of them wasn't just mistakes, I knew better but I did them anyway.  Now that i'm older I have a good paying job, don't ask anyone for anything, but i'm alwasy willing to give if a person what he/she needs if I can help them.  Today I see in my old neighborhood, young boys, as I was, just hangging in the streets selling drugs, walking with their paints sagging, not in school, and they won't go try to find work. I see young girls walking the streets holding babies thats allmost the parents age. what is going on. I pass on hopkins street at night and I see people all day sitting in Bunk Johson Plaza, where do these people live, why don't they have jobs. Some of them do get SSI checks, some get dissability checks, can't work, but can drink alcohol all day, and work for cash, but can't work at a real job. Then we complain about the mexicans coming to america and getting all the jobs, no that is not correct, mexicans are coiming to america to get jobs that we dont want to do and then we still complain. We should not complain about something that we dont want to do. We have some people getting food stamps, welfare checks, disability checks, and some really need them, and some really dont. Our communtiy is falling apart an we as colored people need to get on the right track before there isn't a track to get on at all. We complain about a lot, when all we have to do is get out there and do something for ourself. They young guys that walk the street all day selling drugs, get out there and work and then we wont have to complain about the mexicans. Young ladies get up and get back into school and i'm not saying stop having kids, but if you can't support a kid , dont have them, and a kid is a beautiful thing, dont get me wrong on that. I get up to go to work everyday god send and I see the same people walking the street doing nothing as I seen the night before, why these people cant find jobs? The mexicans are doing a good job at finding work so why can you. Then we want to blame the white man for us not having anything. I see white kids working at mcdonalds, burger king, working with there grandfathers, starting there own little hustles besides wanting to be a drug dealer. Parents need to talk with their kids more, get involved with their everyday life, get to know where they go when they leave the house, who they friends are. The way this world is and the direction it's going we dont know if we will have social security when we get older, we dont know the furture, but we need to get our young peopel off the streets and back in to school. I also see some older people, grown men and women just walking around making new iberia look like a lost town, but yet we still have room to complain. The mexicans are good people that come here to work, and we need to ackowledge that an get to work ourselves. My mother picked peper, clean other people houses, worked what ever jod she could find and never got a welfare check, never got over 100 dollars in food stamps, never got a child support check, but she got out there and did what the mexicans are doing today. she didn't wait on the president or , the white man to give her something she srtuggled but she got it done. Parents get your kids off the streets, mothers get your daughters back in school, fathers be a dad, or be a father to your children. There is too many young people walking the streets with out anything to do, some of them can't fill out an application because they cant read, or cant write. Some of them never worked a day in there life and 20 or 30 years old. That is not good new iberia, when we have our young peole with out work, with no skills of any kind, but they manage to find money to buy cadillacs, BMW's, Big trucks, with 24 inch rims, gold tooth, fancy clothes, drugs, beer, ect. If they can afford all that then they dont need to complain. When we get a little money the first thing black people do is go buy rims for their cars, new vehicles when they knwo they dont need one. We go buy all that we dont need instead of investing , saving for our kids to have something the white people do it all the time, but we dont and thats a shame. I'm not a rasist now I have ever been one, I can work with anyone, i can talk with anyone, but i'm really concerned about my own people. The chineese come and open buisness why we can't, i'm in the process of getting my buisness open and I dont have a penny to start, but you got to have will power and a set mind that yes i can do this, and not let the mexicans and the chineese get it all. Lets try to stay out of jail, there is so many black kids in jail now more than ever before, and it looks like they love because they keep going back. They get our of jail one week and back the next week. They are put on probation for drugs and get out and start selling again, man where did we go wrong? wake up new iberia we can't sleep  all of our lives away.

You can dream it and act on it or you can dream it and expect others to deliver it to you. Only one of these dreams will come true. We all instinctively know which one.

If your life was a "vacation" would you want it spent on a bus driven by government bureaucrats to places THEY want to take you or would you prefer driving your own car to places YOU want to go? "

To take it one step further, if the word "negro" offends you, then why aren't you speaking out against the United Negro College Fund? That's a big part of the problem with this country, too many people are too easily offended. There is not a word in the English language that anyone could call me,that would offend me enough to alter my life. I refuse to give anyone that much power over my soul. I'm stronger than that. "

For some of you think it is only the WHITE mans way of life. It takes people of all colors to make this world. And once again some think a black man can not speak properly or own and use a computer. One love, the police can't fix the problem..Why not more arrests? Not enough jail cells and not enough community co-operation for starters.... As long as excuses are made for unacceptable behavior, and the "us vs. them" mentality is fostered, things will not get appreciably better. "

" It is ashame that more people don't have the same mentality as you have to want more out of life than sitting around bumming off of the government and hardworking people. Just look at the increase in crime in all races and you can see that parents are not taking an interest in their children. If I had got out of line as a child my parents put me right back in line really quick. We walked a chalk line and I am thankful for that or I'd have been good for nothing as well. "

" TO JAMES WHY would you use the word's colored people?who are you and what race are you? because you being thirty year's old know better than to use the word's colored people.WE the black people know better than to use those two horrible word's out in the open.SHAME on you if you are black,I know your mother and grandmother wouldn't be proud of you for using those filthy word's.AND i'm glad you got a good paying job but why would you give them more to talk about? HOPE to hear from you soon "uncle." "

" God Bless your mother for being such a smart woman and not looking for a handout. She has instilled that in you.
I always say, if there is a will, there is a way! I am a single mother of two kids. My son paid his own way for college, and he is now a successful, productive adult. My daughter is in her second year of college and she too is paying her own way through college. They both appreciate the value of a dollar. Nothing has ever been handed to them. "

" James......what a remarkable view on life. This is an issue with every race. The problem is our government has made entitlements a way of life for so many, rather than a means to an end. You are right, Mexicans and Asian people work very hard for what they want. That's why more and more of them are coming to this country. The only problem I have with that is we give them more opportunites than any American will ever get. We get them on their feet with our tax dollars. To cont. "

" James, you are a real inspiration to everyone as your mother was to you. Your concerns are felt the country over by proud men and women who feel exactly as you do. You will succeed because you know no other alternative. Godspeed, man. Pave the way. "

I for one would be willing to extend a helping hand to YOU in any enterprise you would attempt!!! Well said!!! We need more people who share your views and are willing to express them openly!!! This goes for people of ALL races!!!! "
