16 and looking for job

I just turned 16 and am looking for a job in New Iberia, LA.  Not many places are hiring, much less a 16 year old.  Super 1 does hire at 16 but the summer jobs were filled at the beginning of summer, I only just turned 16 and now they are presently not hiring.  If you know of companies that hire a 16 year old, please let me know.  I am actually going through the phone book and calling companies.  Not having much success.  Thanks.  Also, the reason I want to work is to help mom pay my car insurance.  Our rates went through the roof when I was added to her policy.

" I used to live in New Iberia, now we live in Lafayette Parish, in between Scott and Carencro. My 17 yr. old is having a hard time finding a job too. If any of you know of places hiring around there, Please let me know. He is also looking so he can help pay for his insurance, that is ridicously expensive. Good luck, I hope you have found a job since posting this. "

" This is great, a 16 year old looking for work. It is refreshing to read about a young man taking responsibility, caring about the family finances and actually showing a fondness towards gainful employment.

This guy's attitude runs afoul of, what seems to be the prevailing attitude, of working on getting on as many government programs as possible.

I agree with Grandma. If you have a strong desire to get ahead, work for yourself. If you do work the fast food route, PLEASE don't let the slow, bad attitudes rub off on you. "

I would kiss the ground kids like you 2 walk on if they were all like that!!!! Good Luck and try Lowe's and Doug Ashy, they hire part-timers that are still in school! (My eyes are watering) He'll make a great husband/father if anything "

" Try Lydia Food Store. They have a couple of stockboys, etc that work there and go to school. These boys (young men) are courteous, helpful, and seem to enjoy being employed there. Don't call, go there in person. Have a short resume with you, etc. Even if they say they are not hiring, after looking over your resume, with you future goals, etc. they may call you. "

" Maybe you could be self-employed. Here are some of the things I would pay a 16 year old to do if I didn't have someone:
Wash my car, power wash my driveway, clean my window screens, cut the grass and weedeat ,take my trash can to the street, baby sit my dog, defrost my chest freezer, dust my high shelves, vacuum my furniture, If you are good at organizing, straighten up and dust my high shelves. you could have lots of customers. Make yourself some signs. Post on corners and bulletin boards. "

" Go to Wendys either on hwy 90 or Lewis St. My daughter started off at Wendys at 16 and they pay well for a fast food place. I suggest them over any other food chain. Also, I agree your mother should be proud of you for taking on some responsibilties. "

" You can deliver papers. How old do you have to be? I remember years ago you children would deliver papers.

You should be released from school at 2:30 and that should be a fine time to pick up your papers to deliver them. Sunday papers are delivered Saturday night. That should also fit your schedule.

Some of those routes pay very well. "

" Don't call, go in person, have a short resume' listing what your ambitions are and what your future plans are. Dress nicely, walk in and ask to talk to the person in charge of hiring.

When you call it is too easy to just say I'm not hiring and usually you will not be talking to someone who is not responsible for hiring anyway.

    Good Luck! "

" I vote for you trying Raisin' Canes first. I have no affiliation with them other than as customer, but they OBVIOUSLY have a wonderful training program. Every time I go there, no matter what city, the service is exceptional. As a young person looking for work experience, why not get trained the right way to provide customer service instead of getting trained in all of the bad habits practiced by so many in the service industry.
