George B. Merryman

Funeral services are to be held for George Beard Merryman, 79, Friday, July 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at David Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 23, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday July 24, 2009, from 8 a.m. until the time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m. on Friday. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.

A native of Catoosa, Okla., and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Merryman died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 3:30 a.m. at his residence. Mr. Merryman served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Major. After his retirement from the military, he was an electronics technician and instrument landing systems specialist. His favorite past times were electronics, flying, amateur radio communication, restoration of antique radios and fishing.

Mr. Merryman is survived by six children Jim Merryman and wife, Dawn, of Lafayette; Claire Merryman Delaune and husband, Richard, of New Iberia; Scott Merryman and wife, Mary, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Kim Merryman Landry and husband, Kevin, of New Iberia; Elizabeth Merryman Galloway and husband, Ashley, of Roswell, Ga,. and Suzy Merryman Picard and husband, Royd, of Broussard and their mother, Georgia McCarter Merryman; 16 grandchildren Joshua Merryman Brown, Reece, Haley and Caroline Merryman, Matt, Megan and Elise Delaune, Paul Merryman, Courtney, Mallory and Amelie Landry, Ashley Delcambre Ryan, Adam Delcambre and Christopher Galloway, Taylor and Kalyn Picard; and one great-grandchild Emily Belden. Mr. Merryman is also survived by three of his 13 siblings Jean Merryman Russeff of Lakeport, Calif., Leona Merryman Bethell of Rincon, Ga., Eileen Merryman Reed of Moore, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Merryman was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Georgia Beard Merryman and 10 siblings.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to Mr. George’s caregivers Marcella Grayson White, Liz Knight, Sandra Gary, Tonya Toucheck and the staff of Azalea Estates Assisted Living.
