COTEAU — A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Avery Romero, 89, who died Thursday, July 23, 2009, in Coteau.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Rev. Barry Crochet will be the celebrant. Jonie Duplantis and Angela Derouen will proclaim the readings. Gift bearers include Michelle Robicheaux, Michelle Hulin, Sonya Borel, Stephanie Comeaux, Jennifer Price and Jessica Romero.

Born on April 26, 1920, in Iberia Parish, Mr. Romero worked as a dairy farmer for many years and then worked for the City of New Iberia for over 23 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, dancing, French music, telling stories and most of all spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mable Duhon Romero, of Coteau; sons Kenwood Romero and wife, Diane, of New Iberia, Ronald Romero and wife, Judy, of Coteau, Terry Romero and wife, Gee, of New Iberia, Danny Romero of New Iberia, Glenn Duhon and wife, Tressie, of Poverty Point; daughters Peggy Duplantis and husband, Ernest, of New Iberia, Jeannie Breaux of New Iberia, Debby Segura and husband, Jerry, of New Iberia, Bonnie Sanchez and husband, Bert, of Port Allen; brother Norris Joe Romero and wife, Juanita, of Rayne; sisters Dorothy Menard of Cade, Emily Menard and husband, Rivers, of Cade, Edith Touchet of Coteau; sisters-in-law Lillie Mae Romero of Lafayette, Amy Romero of New Iberia, Marie Romero of Coteau; 22 grandchildren Keith, Kirk, Kim, Big Michelle, Scotty, Angela, Jennifer, Kendall, Kimball, Jonie, Carl, Stephanie, Shawn, Little Michelle, Chasity, Sonya, Dawn, Kerry, Amy, Jessica, Joshua and Nicholas; 37 great- grandchildren Kirsten, Travis, Amber, Allison, Tyler, Amber, Keely, Madison, Payton, Conner, Ben, Brennan, Bailey, Brandon, Emma, Erica, Alex, Natalie, Kelsey, Kasper, Little Mike, Kimberly, Hunter, Logan, Derek, Blaire, Ashley, Kylie, Kelsey, Toby, Allyssa, Bailey, Alexis, Gavin, Natalie, Alexis, Rodney; a great-granddaughter due to arrive in November and a great-great-grandchild due to arrive in December.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcide and Claudia Toole Romero; a son Carroll Romero; grandchildren Steven Breaux, Jamie Breaux; sons-in-law Steve Breaux, Nolan Trahan; daughter-in-law Delva Lancon Romero; brothers Eddie Romero, Paul Romero, Laurent Romero; sisters Amanda Romero, Edise Romero; brothers-in-law Dudley Menard and Gus Touchet.

Pallbearers include Kenwood, Ronald, Terry, Danny, Glenn and Scotty.

Honorary pallbearers include Ernest, Bert, Jerry, Joshua, Brennan, Nicholas, Kendall, Kimball, Carl, Shawn, Keith, Kirk, Kim and Kerry.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mr. Romero’s caregivers Judy Romero, his daughter-in-law, and to Diane and Gayle with AAA Hospice.

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 2:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
